Several weeks have passed since I last commented, so here's my pick... The outstanding track is Kasabian's. I find it incredible that this could get no higher than #84 in the charts. Don't rock fans do streaming ? Staying with rock, and the Maximo Park track was another standout. I'm seeing them at a festival this summer, so that bodes well. The Gorillaz/Gallagher collaboration was also strong. At the risk of sounding like I only listen to oldies, the other two really enjoyable songs were Sheryl Crow's and Aimee Mann's. In both cases, these talented singer-songwriters both still seem to be able to deliver top class material. And the Saint Etienne track leaves me intrigued. It is a grower, and could signal a very interesting album to come later this year. As ever, thanks raliverpool for coming up with such a diverse selection of cuts.

03/04/2017 Dreamcar - Kill For Candy
This band is No Doubt minus Gwen Stefani, with Davey Havok, longtime frontman for goth-punk greats AFI filling in for Stefani. In a nutshell this sounds like Panic! At The Disco trying to sound like Midge Ure 1980s era Ultravox.

They do but rock fans can not compete with the amount and playing power of pop fans. Kasabian alreafy has 1.5m streams which is great but the numbers in the top 50 are just silly now.

07/04/2017 Harry Styles - Sign Of The Times
As a former member of a boyband said about his debut solo single in 1984 (which he utilized as the title of his second solo album 6 years later) ... "Listen Without Prejudice". This just gets better with every play....

12/04/2017 OK Go - Interesting Drug A track & video that works on many levels. America's viral video masters return with this cover of the Morrissey original attacking the President of the United States. All this on a day when the Pro-Trump supporter walked off stage after 6 songs because he was getting heckled/booed by an anti-Trump crowd at a gig in Tucson, Arizona (The official reason given was he had got sand in his throat (yeah right sure it was ). On the same day that White House Press Secretary Sean Spicer continued apologising for his staggering comment suggesting that Adolf Hitler was a lesser evil than Syrian dictator Bashar al-Assad when it came to using chemical weapons against his people. "There are some bad bad people on the rise ...."

15/04/2017 Buckingham McVie - In My World The first single off the Fleetwood Mac duo's upcoming LP Lindsey Buckingham/Christine McVie (out June 9th) is a wistful Buckingham composition. Mick Fleetwood and John McVie also serve as the rhythm section on the album which is a Fleetwood Mac album in all but (Stevie Nicks getting her lawyers involved) name. A Christine McVie helmed track "Come Out To Play" from the forthcoming album is also on the internet.

The only worthwhile release yesterday, was this stripped back negative energy blues song sounding like something Leadbelly would have recorded in 1929.
