36 Respect - Aretha Franklin 35 Simon Smith And His Amazing Dancing Bear - Alan Price Set 34 Brown Eyed Girl - Van Morrison 33 The Letter - Box Tops 32 A Whiter Shade Of Pale - Procol Harum 31 I've Been A Bad Bad Boy - Paul Jones 30 Autumn Almanac - Kinks 29 Randy Scouse Git - Monkees
At this point we are already saying "wow, these are classics".
Maybe why many consider 1967 to be the greatest year ever for British pop music, or at least the greatest in the 1970s.
These are primarily #2 and #3 hits. The Monkees' hit was also called "Alternate Title".

15 Soul Man - Sam & Dave **14 Kites - Simon Dupree And The Big Sound 13 If I Were A Rich Man - Topol **12 Daydream Believer - Monkees 11 Hi-Ho Silver Lining - Jeff Beck
Daydream Believer reached #1 for 2 weeks and was still in the last chart, whilst Kites took over from it at #1 and was still #1 on the final week.
As I have now reached 30th March 1968 I have the final runs for both these songs.
Daydream Believer would move up to #8. Kites would move all the way up to #2.
