omg at best British male just as well Bowie is a shoein anyway seemingly Olly Murs quit the nominations show as he didn't get one. Best British female is even worse those 5 singers don't say 2016 to me at all apart from Emeli I guess. Love the group category though.

After it was announced, it was like, is that it? Although I did find it difficult to think of a female singer that stood out in 2016.

The Brit nominations have always been strange but this year.... no Zayn No.1 in UK and US, no Robbie, no Calvin Harris or Alan Walker for best british male?

Wouldn't class Skepta as a breakthrough act, given that he had a top 20 single in 2010 and a top 20 album in 2011.
A questionable nomination - he moved to Norway at the age of 2.
According to Wikipedia, Skepta is also nominated.
Drake & Future are a group???

Who I think will win Who I want to win
British Male Solo Artist:
Craig David David Bowie Kano Michael Kiwanuka Skepta
British Female Solo Artist:
Anohni Ellie Goulding Emeli Sandé Lianne La Havas Nao
^ This has to be quite possibly the worst category nominations the BRITs has ever had. Ellie Goulding who released a critically panned and relative commercial failure of a 3rd album gets nominated. I can't help but think her topping the BBC's annual Sound of... poll and win the Critics' Choice Award at the Brit Awards in 2010 is a factor in the BRITs self fulfilling nomination. Emeli Sande the 2012 Brit Awards' Critics' Choice Award similarly gets nominated despite releasing the biggest stinking mediocre second album since Duffy's Endlessly, and it has performed similarly commercially poorly as the Welsh warbler's sophomore effort. Yet three British females who release critically acclaimed and relatively commercially successful albums Laura Mvula, Shura & Bats For Lashes get snubbed.
British Group:
The 1975 Bastille Biffy Clyro Little Mix Radiohead
British Breakthrough Act:
Anne-Marie Blossoms Rag’N’Bone Man Skepta Stormzy
Critics Choice:
Rag’N’Bone Man (Winner) Anne-Marie Dua Lipa.
British Single:
Alan Walker (Faded) Calum Scott (Dancing On My Own) Calvin Harris Ft Rihanna (This Is What You Came For) Clean Bandit Ft Sean Paul & Anne-Marie (Rockabye) Coldplay (Hymn For The Weekend) James Arthur (Say You Won’t Let Go) Jonas Blue Ft Dakota (Fast Car) Little Mix (Shout Out To My Ex) Tinie Tempah Ft Zara Larsson (Girls Like) Zayn (Pillowtalk)
^ Is it the ten songs Crapital have played most in 2016? Under normal circumstances I would be complaining about the pointless Tropical House/EDM remake of the classic 1988 Tracey Chapman hit "Fast Car"; but that cover of "Dancing On My Own" is worse than being just a bad song. Cover versions should be a new take on a song, or should be a heartfelt tribute in some way. But this... this is just some insipid pr**k thinking that a Simon Cowell TV talent show sub Olly Murs straining/sitting on the toilet faux-earnestness will give that Robyn electronic pop classic some credibility and beige Sam Smith/Emeli Sande soul. Let's strip away all the character and the nuance and the shimmering joy of the original, because it really needs to be heard as a f***ing piano ballad sung by some bloke who couldn't even write a song title as good as that, let alone an actual song. And he uses it to piggy-back to a high chart position and a f***ing Brit Award nomination. It has no artistic merit at all, it is much worse than not existing. Hell even Westlife never ruined a song as comprehensively as this pile of musical excrement.
British Album Of The Year:
The 1975 (I Like It When You Sleep For You Are So Beautiful Yet So Unaware Of It) David Bowie (Blackstar) Kano (Made In The Manor) Michael Kiwanuka (Love & Hate) Skepta (Konnichiwa)
British Artist Video Of The Year:
Adele (Send My Love (To Your New Lover)) Calvin Harris Ft Rihanna (This Is What You Came For) Clean Bandit Ft Sean Paul & Anne-Marie (Rockabye) Coldplay (Hymn For The Weekend) James Arthur (Say You Won’t Let Go) Jonas Blue Ft Dakota (Fast Car) Little Mix Ft Sean Paul (Hair) One Direction (History) Tinie Tempah Ft Zara Larsson (Girls Like) Zayn (Pillowtalk)
The Two British acts nominated in the videos category at the 2017 Grammys are snubbed (Jamie XX - Gosh; David Bowie - Blackstar) in this category. A clueless set of nominations seemingly based on top 40 hits & the Radio 1 playlist. They might as well scrap this category if they are not going to nominate the best most stunning videos.
International Male Solo Artist:
Bon Iver Bruno Mars Drake Leonard Cohen The Weeknd
International Female Solo Artist:
Beyoncé Christine And The Queens Rihanna Sia Solange
International Group:
A Tribe Called Quest Drake & Future Kings Of Leon Nick Cave & The Bad Seeds Twenty One Pilots
^ Drake & Future nominated in best International Group. Is this a joke? If not where the hell is the nomination for Michael Ball & Alfie Boe in Best British Group!

In response to previous criticism, the Brits are now trying way too hard to be achingly urban and have completely over done it.

In response to previous criticism, the Brits are now trying was too hard to be urban and have completely over done it. Can't it just be about the music I don't like music by the colour of skin , sex , orientation etc so why do they have to tick box . One of my favourite bands right now MUNA are all lesbians and one is black makes no difference to me I wouldn't want them to benefit from reverse discrimination it's just getting ridiculous it's 2017 this should be a non issue

Should be on merit, and not desperately trying to tick boxes to please every minority - we are all minorities in some shape and form and that way madness lies. For something like the Brits where the categories are limited, it should be about the quality of the music (whatever the type), and whether they have crafted something exceptional that has touched a lot of music fans that year. Some years it might be dominated by black transgender bands, other years by elderly white woman - who cares, as long as the music is good. I'm obviously not an aficionado on urban music, but even I can tell good from bad, and some of the nominated stuff here is just not a good example of that genre.

Aonhi was previously known as Anthony and the Johnsons, and is now a transgender woman. I've not heard the album apart from a quick sampler (which I liked), so can't really comment on the quality, but Aonhi's nomination has been controversial in the past as she has lived a lot of her life in the States.
As for Nao, no idea! Can we think of other British females who did good work in 2016?

I'm baffled as to why the nominated Ellie Goulding but not Adele. Both released their albums in 2015, but Adele has done far better this year

I think it is just proof that decisions by committee rarely give you the outcome you expect!

I know I'm biased because I love them, but they may as well have nominated Shura or Banks as much as Nao. I think they have more long-term promise and have possibly achieved more in 2016
Edit: Banks is American so shows why I'm not on the committee LoL!

Anohni, Skepta, Kano and Nao all did very well in the Critics' lists of 2016 - see here:- Critics Favourite Albums of 2016I'm delighted they are all nominated, rather than the shortlists just being determined by chart positions. All of these are far more worthy nominees than Robbie Williams, Craig David, Leonard Cohen, Rihanna, Ellie Goulding and Adele.

they cannot nominate Adele cos the album came out in 2015, Ellie can be nominated cos of the new single, the one from Bridget Jones, not cos of the album (it's 2015 too).... but agree, there were much better options in this category (i.e. Shura, even Dua Lipa)... but for once, Im glad they nominated Anohni, one of the best albums of the year
most shocking omission is Radiohead in the Best Album category, sure it beats those Skepta and Kano or the okish but nothing extraordinary 1975 album
also shocking the Drake&Future nomination, sure they could have come up with another band to nominate, or move Bon Iver to the band category
personally I would have nominated Tom Odell and Jack Garratt instead of the 2 grime guys, I think Bowie, Odell, Craid David, Garratt, Kiwanuka would have been the better top 5
