This may be of interest but FreakyTrigger writer Tom Ewing is in the process of reviewing every #1 single ever. You can catch up here: freakytrigger.co.uk/populist/He's up to Oasis' 2002 chart topper “The Hindu Times” but is moving slower now, especially as the number 1 only changes every couple of months at the moment...

Had a quick glance through and he does some interesting write ups for each song. Not sure, even though I am a big Kylie fan that Hand On Your Heart should get a higher score than the Communards Don't Leave Me This Way but each to their own. An A1 getting a 9 out of 10 as well.

Andy Abraham (runner up in 2005 X-Factor and 2008 UK Eurovision entrant) never recorded the Smurf song. Maybe would have been better if he had. Even his mentor Sharon Osbourne never expected him to go further than Brenda in the contest.
Father Abraham did record it and it didn't get to #1. It spent 6 weeks at #2 behind "You're The One That I Want".
I think it's on Spotify though, just you were looking for Andy Abraham which is probably why you didn't find it.
Slade were previously not on Spotify and they had a lot of #1s.
Dave Clark Five pretty much completely missing from Spotify, thus Glad All Over.
Prince is now back on but not sure about The Most Beautiful Girl, and not sure about the covers of his songs that were previously missing too (I Feel For You, Nothing Compares 2 U).

Just noticed he gave the worst number one ever Doop 7 out of 10, anyone who gives this more than 0 cannot be taken seriously lol

He only gave 2 to "I Don't Like Mondays". That's lower than the 3 he gave Shaddup You Face. (Still beats the 1 for Grandma).

Doop is ok, a bit dated. Of course Morrissey (The More You Ignore Me The Closer I Get) should have been the release that week to get to #1 and I think the Beautiful South (Good As Gold), Carter USM (Glam Rock Cops) and Primal Scream (Rocks) all had singles out the same week. So at best Doop was the 5th best single released that week. Of course Morrissey did get to #1 with his album "Vauxhall & I" and all those bands I listed can sell out gigs.

You have to search for "Official Charts" to find it, searching by the name doesn't work. Indeed no KLF or Timelords, no Billy Connolly, and only three of the six Slade Number Ones are available. I daresay there are a few other gaps I didn't think to look for. Also, some odd versions of tracks and I notice they've only picked one song from double A-sides or EPs. On the other hand, some people will be pleased to know that they've included Gary Glitter and Rolf Harris.

"Glad All Over" definitely missing from Spotify. One of those things when I've been going through the 60s is they are noticeably always missing.
Ray Charles is there even though so much of his catalogue is missing but that's mostly the later songs.

I recently set up a Spotify account, only a free one but I figured I may switch to the paid version if I like it. I decided to start by making playlists of the top 100 best selling singles of each year in the 1990s, as these would contain lots of stuff that would be fun to hear but which I would never want to spend actual money on.
I have been amazed by how many songs are not available, from a list of songs which by their very nature were very commercially successful. OK, so we all know about the KLF, and it is fair to say that certain novelty acts would have virtually no one who wants to hear their music now anyway (Arnee and the Terminators for example). Some acts seem to be missing just because their big hits were one offs though (eg Only You by Praise), and there's some which just seem like glaring omissions (where on earth is Secret Love by the Bee Gees? They're not exactly a long forgotten underground act!)
Overall it's a bit disappointing. If I attempted this in iTunes I could fill in the gaps in their music library using CDs or creating MP3s from YouTube (sorry officer...). With Spotify it feels a bit like I am re-writing history, when what I wanted to do was document it.

you had too high expectations if you thought Spotfy was gonna have EVERYTHING. That's impossible.

To be fair to Spotify you can add songs you've downloaded onto it - so I have the option to stream all the KLF hits there for example.

you had too high expectations if you thought Spotfy was gonna have EVERYTHING. That's impossible. There's a huge difference between everything and the 1,000 biggest hits of the 90s. It's not like they're obscure, by definition they're the opposite of obscure.
