After all the waiting and speculation, Digital Spy can finally, exclusively confirm that Luther is returning to our screens for a fifth series!
Luckily for us, there's still "unfinished business" for Idris Elba's John Luther, so four brand new episodes are coming to BBC One to answer all of our questions – and pose some new ones.
Announcing the return of the award-winning crime drama, writer Neil Cross said: "Now what? It's a question Idris and I get asked a lot...
"It can't be over, can it? There's so much we don't know. So much unfinished business. The thing is, we've been asking ourselves the same question."
Teasing more of that heart-stopping mystery, he added: "I'm scared of the monsters. The face at the window. The hand under the bed. The shadow at the end of the street.
"Who's going to stop them, if not John Luther?"
Speaking about his return to detective work, Idris Elba said: "Neil, the BBC and I have been talking about a further season and I am thrilled that we have been able to bring it all together.
"I look forward to putting the coat back on."
(We're looking forward to it too, Idris.)
While details of the latest series are being kept firmly under wraps for the moment, we do know that it's set to be full of surprises – and scary ones at that.
Piers Wenger, controller of BBC Drama, promised "big surprises" for the "utterly heart-stopping and unmissable fifth series".
While executive producer Hilary Salmon added that BBC Studios "will be pulling out all the stops to make the show bigger, bolder and of course more scary than ever".
Now that we've got the series we've been patiently waiting for, perhaps that Luther movie isn't such a wild idea after all...
