That looks like an exceptionally strong line-up to me.

If it was delayed to allow Celine Dion to contribute why is she not on the list?

After first listen it's better than a lot if these types of charity singles. Hard to get beyond the "Who's singing what bit?" Feeling throughout it though. And in some cases it's a few words more than a line.

I hate to think what they did to this.
The only one of these "charity" songs I really liked was Perfect Day, although I also quite liked the Crowd's "You'll Never Walk Alone".

This is one of the best ensemble charity singles there has been. Of course, it is a genius piece of songwriting, but the production and vocal performances seem just right. All involved deserve much credit.

The public, who have already donated so much already, should not be asked to contribute even more to a situation caused by chronic neglect and a failure of UK govt at every level.
This is not a natural disaster or a tragic accident, it's a criminal act.
Any extra money to deal with this should be taken from the c. £300 million reserve fund that the Government are currently sitting on for events such as these.
Cowell and his mates should make a whacking personal cash donation if they wish (Fair play to SCowell who has already done so), and use the opportunity to question why and how this happened (like Adele, Lily Allen, Kate Nash, & Cerys Matthews (along with Rita Ora who is on this record) who have been down to spend actual time down in Tottenham volunteering and supporting those affected by this traumatic event, yet are absent from this record deserve the most credit).
Some of the other teen stars could also privately visit some of the younger victims to give them a well-deserved cheer up.
The whole concept of The S*n & the Daily May-all who have done so much to harm in vilifying the people who were victims of this criminal act of neglect on a daily basis asking us to delve into our pockets, and are fascisticly implying anyone who does not blindly support this record is a traitor of some sort makes me livid.
All in all it is about as self serving as Liam Gallagher's appearance at the recent Manchester Ariana Grande concert (a much better idea to raise revenue than making a record, but not as good for being in the newspapers/media, raising a positive profile for Syco + other associated acts), where he did an Adam Ant singing & promoting his latest single which was not for charity, and apparently according to Manchester music legends Johnny Marr & Peter Hook insisted on the proviso that Noel Gallagher was banned from the event (whom had already donating his songwriting & publishing royalties for "Don't Look Back In Anger"). -------------------------------------------
Musically, apart from Stormzy inspiring & moving rap intro, the record is predictably awful.
In a truth a far better, more appropriate track (I heard Radio 6 Music's Shaun Keaveny suggest this) to record by one of London's finest ever singer/songwriter's who had an ethnic background, who did a hell of lot for charity, but was not a fan of being famous:
These are the days of the open hand They will not be the last Look around now These are the days of the beggars and the choosers
This is the year of the hungry man Whose place is in the past Hand in hand with ignorance And legitimate excuses
The rich declare themselves poor And most of us are not sure If we have too much But we'll take our chances 'Cause God's stopped keeping score
I guess somewhere along the way He must have let us all out to play Turned his back and all God's children Crept out the back door
And it's hard to love, there's so much to hate Hanging on to hope When there is no hope to speak of And the wounded skies above say it's much much too late Well maybe we should all be praying for time
These are the days of the empty hand Oh, you hold on to what you can And charity is a coat you wear twice a year
This is the year of the guilty man Your television takes a stand And you find that what was over there is over here
So you scream from behind your door Say, "What's mine is mine and not yours" I may have too much but I'll take my chances 'Cause God's stopped keeping score
And you cling to the things they sold you Did you cover your eyes when they told you That he can't come back 'Cause he has no children to come back for
It's hard to love, there's so much to hate Hanging on to hope when there is no hope to speak of And the wounded skies above say it's much too late So maybe we should all be praying for time

Its bloddy awful, how many times has that song been covered now?. The original is brilliant, while every cover there has been, has ruined it.

It makes Hear'Say's version actually not all that bad now!. Will be interesting to see what everyone will think by Friday, even if its looking to be a mixed bag.

I've managed to remain ignorant of the existence of a Hear'Say version. I'm guessing that's my good fortune.

I dislike this version and the original from Simon and Garfunkel too.

I haven't listened to it. It probably can't be as bad as Linda Clifford's disco workover but I don't expect much else.

I'm not overly fussed on this version to be honest.
I like a few of the charity records they did in the 80s, like Let It Be & Ferry Cross The Mersey.

I didn't like the Let It Be version. Ferry Across The Mersey worked better because it wasn't a big group.

I didn't like the Let It Be version. Ferry Across The Mersey worked better because it wasn't a big group. Agreed you had Paul McCartney to thank for that, as when he was approached by Stock Aitken & Waterman they were planning another all star record, but they deferred to his suggestion of a few Liverpool singers/acts. Which decades later in his autobiography "I Wish I Was Me" Pete Waterman admits that with hindsight that was totally the correct thing to do. Of course the vile The S*n tried to kick up a stink at the time with that, as he also nixed Cilla Black appearing on the record (again Waterman's biography touched on that, it was actually true, but the former Beatle cited that Cilla's voice was never the same after she had a nose job in the early 1970s which mucked up her voice (& was one of the reasons why Barbra Streisand & Barry Manilow did not have nose jobs, or not at least in the 20th Century).
