Anyone apart from Kate Tempest absolutely detest her. Blossoms or Glass Animals would get my vote

Just seen this on Facebook, pleased with the list, well apart from Ed Sheeran, I mean you cant escape him when you're watching Game of Thrones Alt-J: ‘Relaxer’ Likes 2 or 3 of the singles off this. Blossoms: ‘Blossoms’ I actually have this and really like it. Standard Indie fare, but nothing wrong with that. Dinosaur: ‘Together, As One’ Jazz, not my thing, so cant comment. Ed Sheeran: ‘Divide’ Liked the 3 big singles, but give the prize to someone that wants/needs it. Glass Animals: ‘How To Be A Human Being’ Got this one as well, absolutely brilliant album, I really hope this wins it and gets more recognition that it deserves! J Hus: ‘Common Sense’ Not my thing. Kate Tempest: ‘Let Them Eat Chaos’ Not heard anything by her. Loyle Carner: ‘Yesterday’s Gone’ Another one I dont know. Sampha: ‘Process’ Not heard enough to form an opinion. Stormzy: ‘Gang Signs & Prayer’ Not my thing, just sounds like Dizzee Rascal from 15 years ago... The Big Moon: ‘Love In The Fourth Dimension’ Really liking a couple of their singles, great to see them on the list. The xx: ‘I See You’ On hold is excellent as is I dare you, really pleased they've upped the funkiness of their sound. I'm thinking/hoping xx might win this, but I expect it will go to Stormzy or Ed.

The XX is the only semi-decent one... Can't believe they added Ed :/ personally this list reads more like the worst albums of the year :/ even Alt J, used to like them a lot, their debut was amazing, but their latest is so so bad... really doesn't deserve to be on any Best of the year list... thy'll probably give it to some rapper again, guess Stormzy, with his stupid lyrics written from the perspective of a 10 year old kid

There are some odd choices The Big Moon aren't anything special they are like a 2nd rate Sleeper revival band but BBC Radio seems to love them.
Been thinking of a few better options The Charlatans (best album in years), Maximo Park ( Back on form),Blaenavon, British Sea Power,Ride,London Grammar, Dua Lipa,Royal Blood,Frank Carter, and where the f*ck is Rag'n Bone Man

Glass Animals, Sampha and The xx all very much deserve their nominations. But can't picture any of them winning this one.

Firstly I'm rather surprised and disappointed that Jane Weaver - Modern Kosmology; London Grammar - Truth Is A Beautiful Thing; Declan McKenna - What Do You Think About The Car?; Dua Lipa - Dua Lipa; and their best album in 20 years The Charlatans - Different Days have been snubbed.
But I'm most outraged that Public Service Broadcasting - Every Valley has been omitted. Because had this historical, concept album depicting the history of the mining industry in Wales, more specifically chronicling the rise and decline of the country's coal industry been nominated then I would have expected it to be the favourite to win. But I guess it is far too Corbynista intelligencia for the Mercury committee in the same way the Jeremy Kyle UKIP/Brexit friendly modern day John Cooper Clarke tribute act Sleaford Mods - English Tapas have been omitted.
Of the albums nominated ... Ed Sheeran gets nominated for his worst album to date, but I guess he could do with the exposure!
Delighted to see "Lukaku" nominated. Personally I think Stormzy's debut is great, but surely he will lose out because Skepta won last year (when Bowie's Blackstar should have won) despite to my ears having a much better album than last year's winner.
Whilst I would be delighted if to quote a 2014 David Bowie email to Radio 6 Music "Janis Joplin reborn as a cockney rapper" Kate Tempest won. No artist has summed up the last 12 months in the UK as well as the banned by UK radio single (yet allowed on numerous European & North American TV shows such as Jimmy Fallon):
Otherwise, I'd very happily settle for Glass Animals. But my tip to win is Loyle Carner.

Bit annoyed Rag N Bone Man and London Grammar were snubbed, but we all know where the Prize is going to go unfortunately ideally I would love to see The xx get it.

Few random thoughts here:
I suspect the Public Service Broadcasting album was released too late for the deadline. Though I've never been convinced by them anyway.
RnB Man is just a spare Ed Sheeran anyway, so there was no need to nominate both of them. And I don't think the new Charlatans album is as good as the last one, it's just got more famous people on it.
Alt-J only seem to make records in order to be nominated for awards so no surprises there.

I think anything released up to last week qualifies so Public Service Broadcasting have been snubbed again The omission of rag 'n' Bone Man is odd (assuming it was entered). It is a far more innovative album than Ed Sheehan.

Yep, I've just looked it up the latest permissible release date was 21st July so I stand corrected on this point. Even Declan McKenna would theoretically be eligible though of course I don't know whether he actually entered.

I think this award can be a waste of time sometimes. Hope ed Sheehan don't get it. Would like blossoms to win but stormzy could take it given what he has done to bring the awful grime sound to the masses.
