97 Our House – Madness
Another song that the video seemed to be on all the time on everything, I think this maybe should be a little higher as it was again another 12 year old me favourite. The US music scene has really been broken down and a song that you can't imagine being played much on US FM radio, just 2 years ago, is now a #7 hit, it reached #5 in the UK.

96 Run to the Hills - Iron Maiden
You won't see much from Iron Maiden in my top 100 this might be their own appearance. To be honest I really didn't like them at the time and I disliked their fans even more. I basically avoided anyone who wore heavy metal T shirts at school they were usually bullies or dickheads, or both. But I can't knock this its a classic. This reached #7 in the UK and you just cant listen to it without hearing the voice of Tommy Vance lol

95 Do You Really Want To Hurt Me - Culture Club
Wow these musical contrasts. I wasn't really a fan of Culture Club either but I did appreciate their best songs which this is of course one of. Another UK act that crossed over to the US after being a number one hit here, it went on to be a #2 in the US.

94 Strange Little Girl – The Stranglers
As I have already mentioned The Stranglers were one of my favourite alternative bands at the time, they could be really punky, do a ballad or do just a classic pop song like this. They of course have a very big song to come. This track reached #7 in 1982.

93 Pass The Dutchie – Musical Youth
Another favourite from the time, think nearly everyone at school loved this song, even if we didn't actually know what it was about. And yes another crossover hit after reaching #1 in the UK, it reached #10 in the US.

92 Leave In Silence - Depeche Mode
Only appearance for Depeche Mode in this list but they will be back in force next year. This was their fifth top 20 hit reaching #18

91 Think I'm In Love – Eddie Money
Ending this run of all UK acts, is one of my favourite US AOR rockers. I didn't know this song at the time I didn't get into Eddie Money until 1986 but over the years with Spotify especially I have listened to all his old stuff, expect to see him very high in later years. This song reached #16 in the US.

90 Da Da Da (I Don't Love You You Don't Love Me Aha Aha Aha) – Trio
Now a real oddity, off the back of the success of Kraftwerk there was a few odd synth based tracks in this era. I think many of us tried to copy this song with our Casio Vl-Tones as it was so simple. Anyway this German band had a worldwide hit reaching #2 in the UK.

89 Really Saying Something – Bananarama, Fun Boy Three
Their second collaboration with Fun Boy Three, the other one is yet to come. This reached #5 in the UK.

88 Hard To Say I'm Sorry – Chicago
Another big power ballad from Chicago, this is one of their best but in such a busy year it only manages #88. It was a US number one and reached #4 in the UK.

87 Working for the Weekend – Loverboy
Had to a quick substitute as the song that was meant to be here was a big hit in 1978 so probably shouldn't be here. So there is always plenty Loverboy to fill the gap. This reached #29 in the US and made VH1s greatest songs of the 80s list. But for me I think it was Grand Theft Auto:Vice City where I heard this first.

86 I Second That Emotion – Japan
I always thought this was an odd cover version and its still sounds quite bizarre but a great song and a great band and it kinda works. It reached #9 in the UK.

85 Club Country - The Associates
Havent had much from Scotland lately, they have been enjoying a very active indie scene at the moment, led by Postcard records. One of the most famous bands in this scene were The Associates and we will probably hear from most of the others in this list and the next. Recently signed to a major, this was their 2nd hit reaching #13 in the UK.

84 I'm So Excited – The Pointer Sisters
It wasn't until I did these lists that I realised how many Pointer sisters songs I liked, I became aware of them first i think on the soundtrack to Beverley Hill Cop but this also featured in a hit movie National Lampoon's Vacation. It is probably most well known now for being a favourite X factor song that nearly always gets played when people get put through to Boot camp. It reached #9 in the US and #11 in the UK.

1982 seems a really strong year for music Yep, very soon it will be solid banger after banger 83 Glittering Prize - – Simple Minds
Their sound is really changing now and I think this is the first Simple Minds song which will be their template for the next 25 years before they start to look back to their early synth sounds. This reached #16 in the UK

82 I Want Candy – Bow Wow Wow
First of two entries for this band, I doubt we will see them in later lists. Fronted by the lovely Annabella Lwin who is just 5 years older than me!! This was a number 9 hit in Uk and also reached #62 in the US.

81 Space Age Love Song – A Flock Of Seagulls
First appearance for one of my favourite bands at the time, we will see a lot more of them much higher up over the next couple of years. This isn't one of their best known songs but even average AFOS is pretty damn good. This was their 4th single and reached #34 in Uk and #30 in the US. These days they are most famous for the frontman's terrible haircuts.

80 Only You – Yazoo
Well isn't this timely? This song is enjoying a renaissance at the moment after being featured in the Boots Xmas Ad. Of course this song was a Xmas number one for The Flying Pickets, you will not be seeming them in these lists!! It was a UK number two hit and reached #67 in the Us under the name of Yaz, yes things will get very confusing in a few years.
