the future of uk guitar indie music desn't seem very promising if pale waves are the best new thing coming, a very poor imitation of the 1975 (I know he's producing them)

the future of uk guitar indie music desn't seem very promising if pale waves are the best new thing coming, a very poor imitation of the 1975 (I know he's producing them) They are much better live, they need a bigger production don't think Matt Healy is doing them any favours, i think they will move away from that sound soon. C'mon the main singer is a goth and her favourite band The Cure, they will get more interesting. Also they aren't the best thing in Uk guitar music, they are hardly a rock band are they, just they are a safe option that cover many sounds so they could pick up votes from different kinds of music fans and critics. A real rock group would struggle for votes. Still think they are the best act on the list though for what that's worth. My favourites left are Sigrid, Tom Walker and Superorganism. Would love that top 3

Khalid has surely broken through already?

Khalid album was released 10 months ago, he had 2 international solo hits and 3 as featured artist (Rollin, Silence, 1-800), he has several Grammy nominations. He doesn't need that Sound of... spot. They should use this list to give some promotion to acts which really need it.

Only heard of Tom Walker thanks to mentions in this thread, and I'm already hooked on him.
I hope he gets this but not the Critics Choice at the Brits. He's too similar to James Bay and Rag'n'Bone Man for that in my opinion. Let's have something new.

...Interestingly, there's an equivalent BBC Sound Of 2017 website and that carries virtually the same sentence except that the rule then was top 20, not top 10. Alma sneaks in whereas if her hit had been last year she wouldn't've. So, they've changed the rules to benefit their industry mates.

I'm very pleased with this years outcome, but then again I remember being delighted when Little Boots won 9 years ago(ahead of the likes of Florence + The Machine; Lady Gaga; La Roux; Kid Cudi; & White Lies), and look how that all turned out.
