04/02/2018 Justin Timberlake - Man of the Woods
The fourth video & title track of the album released on Friday by the former *N'Sync member, who is the half time star turn at the 52nd Superbowl tonight (give me the Six Nations Rugby Union any day of the week, let alone "Soccer" over a stupid American sport which makes Cricket look exhilarating in comparison ....)

05/02/2018 Julia Holter - So Humble the Afternoon
The Los Angeles based baroque art pop singer/songwriters goes all ambient dream pop on this track presumably from an as yet unannounced 5th studio album which would be the follow up to Have You in My Wilderness which topped several music critics' end-of-year lists (including least importantly my own!)

07/02/2018 Daphne & Celeste - BB
As raved about by Pitchfork, & played on BBC Radio 6 Music today, the brand new comeback single by the notorious New York female pop duo is taken from Daphne & Celeste Save The World out March 30 on Max Tundra’s Balatonic label. BB stands for "Basic Busker", and lyrically there are deserved barbed swipes at Ed Sheeran & Taylor Swift as well as the increasingly monotonous Top 40 chart radio designed to get picked for curated Hot Hits Spotify playlists.

08/02/2018 Gwenno - Tir Ha Mor
The Welsh dream pop artist and sometimes stand in for Cerys Matthews on her lovely frequently oddball Sunday morning BBC6 Music show releases her second solo album "Le Kov" which is a Cornish language album; it is the follow up to her first solo full-length album, the Welsh-language "Y Dydd Olaf" which in 2015 won the Welsh Music Prize: Best album by a Welsh act (at their equivalent at the Mercury Music Award); and won the annual Drowned In Sound "Neptune Award" for the best album NOT nominated for the Mercury Music Award (so joining previous winners by the likes of Portishead; Kate Bush; Late Of The Pier; & My Bloody Valentine whom had been snubbed by the Mercury committee). It has just won tonight's Radio 6 Music roundtable Record of The Week. Still it helps that former popstar/session singer turned music journalist Rebecca Stephens was on the panel ....

09/02/2018 The Wombats - Cheetah Tongue
The Liverpool rock band's third track taken from their 4th studio album released today "Beautiful People Will Ruin Your Life" with a wonderfully oddball video that gives Franz Ferdinand's latest a run for its money.

15/02/2018 Courtney Barnett - Nameless, Faceless
(Whilst waiting the new Muse single to drop) The Sydney born indie pop singer/guitarist/songwriter quickly follows up her Kurt Vile October 2017 released collaborative album Lotta Sea Lice, with the lead single from her forthcoming second solo album Tell Me How You Really Feel, due for release on 18 May 2018. It is a cracker.

16/02/2018 Yeah Yeah Yeah's - Thirteen
(Sorry Muse, but you lose again today) The stands out by far of three new (covers) of old songs by contemporary artists (the others are Frank Ocean - Moon River, and even worse Ellie Goulding - Vincent). But this acoustic cover of the 1972 Big Star original which Rolling Stone described as "one of rock's most beautiful celebrations of adolescence" sees Karen O take on the Alex Chilton and Chris Bell alt folk pop original and does a quite brilliant job with it.

20/02/2018 Father John Misty - Mr Tillman
At this moment in time it is unclear whether this melancholic track is one off, or from the follow up album to 2017's "Pure Comedy" album. Either way this has a more Flaming Lips/Radiohead feel than his previous classic early 1970s Elton John/Harry Nilsson homage.
