08/12/2018 Natalie Portman - Wrapped Up
What strange times we live in.
12 months ago most film experts would have confidentally predicted the Oscar winning actress' Vox Lux musical fictional biopic (with music by Sia Furler; and Madonna Ciccone as its film adviser) of a millennium female popstar crashing & burning would be Oscar Award winning catnip; and predicted the 3rd remake of A Star Is Born would be a multi Razzies contender..... Yet the reality is The Swan actress is the bookies favourite for Worst Actress at the The Golden Raspberry Awards for her off kilter & unconvincing performance in this critically savaged film; whilst Lady Gaga is second favourite for the Best Actress at the Oscars (behind "The Favourite" our "Queen (Anne)" Olivia Colman) ...; with ASIB the current narrow favourite to win Best Picture...
Like I say strange, strange times.

12/12/2018 Flight of the Conchords - Father and Son (Live in London)
The New Zealand comedy duo on their reunion tour did this new song which was clearly a homage to the moving Cat Stevens song (which even Boyzone could not murder) of the same name, but with rather more interesting, laugh out loud funny, less mawkish lyrics.

15/12/2018 This Elegant Gull - Social Media
I know very little about this track other than the fact numerous Radio 6 music DJs are raving about this track written & recorded by an 11 year old. Think Tom Tom Club in the late 2010s.

17/12/2018 M.I.A. - Reload
I know you were all thinking was what the world was missing the Sri Lankan born artist to return with a decade old song written at the time dissing Lily Allen, with a cheap video directed by Justine Frischmann (of Elastica).

18/12/2018 Boy George & Culture Club - Life
The title track of the 1980s London mixed race group's 6th studio album, and first for 19 years now has a rather good video for it.

19/12/2018 The Raconteurs - Now That You're Gone
Today Jack White’s band with Brendan Benson, Jack Lawrence, and Patrick Keeler returned with their first new material in 11 years, taken from a forthcoming new album in 2019. One of the two new songs is an absolute banger called “Sunday Driver.” where Jack White takes the lead vocals. But I prefer the more Beatles' Abbey Road brooding blues rock sounding Brendan Benson led track.

22/12/2018 Stealing Sheep - Joking Me
The Liverpool synthpop female trio signed to Heavenly Records released this single a few weeks ago which I've heard it played on Radio 6 Music. It's flipside is a cover of Paul McCartney's Wonderful Christmastime which I think is much better than Mark Ronson ft Miley Cyrus' cover of John Lennon's Happy Xmas (War Is Over).

23/12/2018 Cardi B - Money
The New York born rapper Belcalis Marlenis Almánzar could have decided to follow the template she set with her radio & visually friendly and critically acclaimed material from her debut Invasion of Privacy. However she has gone somewhat stripped down bass heavy hardcore on this bonus track from the deluxe version of said album. . Its music video features Cardi playing characters in different locations, including in an art museum, a bank and a strip club.

24/12/2018 Ruston Kelly - Mockingbird
This Texas born country singer/songwriter was dubbed the male Kacey Musgraves when he broke through in 2017 with his debut album Halloween. A year later he released his second album Dying Star, and is now married to ..... Kacey Musgraves.
This gritty storytelling track has a bit of a Christmas theme to the video, but more in an Eastenders sort of way.
