The BRIT Awards 2018 nominations have been revealed and Dua Lipa leads with five nods, while Sam Smith has been snubbed completely.
In the best British female solo artist category, Dua Lipa will face competition from 2015 winner Paloma Faith, Jessie Ware, Kate Tempest, and Laura Marling.
Meanwhile, she's also been nominated for British Album of the Year, Single of the Year, British Video of the Year and British Breakthrough.
Ed Sheeran came close with three nominations, including best British male solo artist, alongside four artists who released their debut solo albums last year.

It's all crap, isn't it? Just...utter, utter, utter, crap.
Music is supposed to be subjective, but...Christ alive. What a shower of sh*t.
There's nothing there. It's all f***ing beige. Most of it sounds identical, all created by computer, marketing surveys, image makers, and payola.
And Gorillaz? Best British group? For two weeks in the top ten?
I predict that 75% of the nominees will be forgotten by 2025. After all, look at the Look at the International acts. I think all the women and international groups bar Haim and Lorde are from the last millennium. Ergo every single other act since 2000 is not as worthy of consideration for anything as LCD Soundsystem.
Is it time to finish it? Just end popular music in toto?

Ed to win at least 4 then, assume he wont get the video one, as usually that goes to X Factor type acts? I'm only really interested in the Groups sections, rest is meh and predictable.

I reckon Stormzy might take one or two of Ed’s awards like album. They’ll have to give Ed something (prob single and male) as there would be backlash if he got nothing but they’d want to appear diverse and reward the British urban scene so share the love and everybody happy.

And it is kind of funny a complete unknown like Loyle Carner gets a non and SAM Smith doesn’t. Reckon Rag n Bone will be the bridesmaid of the night despite his huge success he won’t win anything as he’s in the wrong categories.

Does anyone know the eligibility period? Can't seem to find it anywhere for this year.

No offence Vast, but it does sound distinctly like you’re saying popular music should come to an end because you don’t like it any more. I am not keen on much of this stuff either, and a lot of it sounds the same to me too. Fact is though, for some reason loads of people love it, and I’m happy for them.

Do they love it though or is it foisted on them? How many people are actually buying it?

Do they love it though or is it foisted on them? How many people are actually buying it? Although I think the lists are over diverse now nomination for Childish Gambino great comedian and actor but his music does nothing sales wise in the UK. But I do think these nominations represent what people listen to better than ever before. Most of my favourites are included and I'm 45 and most of my son's, so that's a success yeh? Ok I do agree also about Gorillas why not represent successful UK rock like Nothing But Thieves a number two album!

Childish Gambino’s track ‘Redbone’ is amazing and very different to everything else in the chart so I’ve deserves an award based on sheer quality alone. Album good too.

completely shocked at the sam smith snub, most shocking nominations ever, I thought it was a mistake at firt, I would have bet everything he'd get at least nominated for best male and best album, 200% sure his label must be p*ssed out, they're gonna loste a lot of $$$, the album needed the brits promo to keep selling

Wondering if his album was out in time for deadline? Clutching at straws to figure out why he was missed from list. No doubt Ed will scoop the lot...even best female if he was mentioned.

I presume Sam is a victim of political correctness. Obvs Ed Sheeran and Rag'n'Bone Man should have been nominated. Then they needed a couple of grime acts. And, fearing a total switch-off from rock fans, they threw in Gallagher. Sam Smith wouldn't have added any viewers, and his omission won't lead to outrage in the way an all-white shortlist would, or the total absence of rock music.
Similar ref. albums, only this time they needed to include at least one woman on the shortlist as well.
