Found this really fascinating. Also liked the reference to chart books. Totally different interview to the normal sort you get with megastars - he obviously enjoyed talking about the more techy and muso sound of things with someone who knew that sort of thing. I asked an indie bassist once who the best bassist ever was, and he said straight away Paul McCartney.

It is very good that you posted that, especially after Quincy Jones interview with GQ & Vulture magazines, especially with regards his opinion of The Beatles:
“They were the worst musicians in the world. They were no-playing motherfuckers. Paul was the worst bass player I ever heard. And Ringo? Don’t even talk about it.”
I guess the likes of JP Jones (Led Zeppelin); Lynott (Thin Lizzy); Deacon (Queen); Edwards (Chic); Sting (Police); Lemmy (Motorhead), Geddy Lee (Rush); Harris (Iron Maiden); Flea (Chilli Peppers); etc who have all gone on record naming Paul McCartney as the single greatest rock bass player are wrong.
Still anyone would think Q was jealous and worried about his legacy with regards his productions of three blockbusting albums by a person no longer here of dubious behaviour, whom is very, very lucky that in the USA the estate of the deceased can sue for libel, etc in contrast to the UK. But in the USA oldies radio are shunning his output somewhat compared to his 1980s megastar contemporaries; in contrast to the UK where we seem to treat him with blind adoration.
But then again Q also thinks Ed Sheeran is really talented musician. (So maybe he was trolling).
