The album will be released on 5th November Tracklisting: 1. I Still Have Faith In You 2. When You Danced With Me 3. Little Things 4. Dont Shut Me Down 5. Just A Notion 6. I Can Be That Woman 7. Keep An Eye On Dan 8. Bumble Bee 9. No Doubt About It 10. Ode To Freedom Interesting to see Just A Notion on the album. It's an old, previously unreleased song ~ I wonder if they've re-recorded it, or simply polished what they recorded decades ago? Or could it be a new song with a familiar title? I guess we'll find out on Bonfire Night! Just A Notion appears to be the old song - the lyrics are the same in the booklet - but I'd be surprised if it hasn't been tweaked or rerecorded entirely. Hard to imagine something they didn't think was up to scratch 40+ years ago suddenly being deemed acceptable. Bumble Bee is almost certainly a new song, not Free As A Bumble Bee, as the chorus for that was reused for I Know Him So Well.

One listen of each and not disappointed. Classic ABBA sound.
Hope it does well for them.

During a manic week at work (boy my holiday can't come soon enough) I caught the Abba reveal on Thursday evening on youtube .... (It was far from Zoe Ball's finest half hour; and Benny Andersson is still a hilarious shady legend whom I greatly admire; to Björn Ulvaeus more affable PR friendly self.
My thoughts on the first song "I Still Have Faith In You" is it is kind of similar to how I felt when I heard The Beatles "Free As A Bird" (which in truth was only truly emotional when watched with its terrific Easter Egg video). It was/is a very decent song, but is not amongst their top tier; and comes across as trying to be epic, but failing (albeit not by much). Lyrically, it could be the only choice to be a return after (near) four decades away. But to me it is a bit too musical theater meets "My Home Town" from Eurovision Song Contest: The Story of Fire Saga.
On the other hand "Don't Shut You Down" is better than I could have imagined & realistically hoped for. Lyrically, from Agnetha's vocals it starts off where their final actual recording (not release) left off "The Day Before You Came"; but the catchy hook laden track is everything you could wish from an Abba song with the vocal harmonies & bouncy groove; had it been released in 1983 or 1984 it would surely have been a top three hit all across Europe.
Possibly the reason I love it so much is takes elements of their own "If It Wasn't For The Nights" and "Just Like That" as if to say sorry the former was never a single, and the later was never released. Have this as an apology.
The other reason I'm rather emotional about this is Abba were my older sister's favourite band (Phil Collins was her favourite solo act); but she died of cancer a few years ago; She had several of their albums on vinyl first time around; and about a decade ago I bought her the Abba: The Albums mini CDs boxset as a birthday present (which I got passed back to me after her death)... so it adds a bittersweet melodramatic element to this perfect in keeping with the band's more deeper work.

www.officialcharts.com/chart-news/abba-break-universal-music-uk-record-for-biggest-ever-pre-order-with-new-album-voyage__33967/ABBA break Universal Music UK record for biggest ever pre-order with new album Voyage ABBA have broken pre-order records with their new album Voyage, just three days after its announcement. A press statement for the band has revealed that Voyage has received over 80,000 pre-orders in the UK alone since Friday, a new record for their long-time label Universal Music UK. This overtakes the previous record-setters Take That with their albums Progress and III. Released under Universal imprint Polydor, Voyage will be available on Friday November 5. To give some perspective (looks up on Wiki) Take That's Progress album sold 235,000+ copies on the first day and 520,000 in its first week. I'm not convinced they'll beat that in this less physical friendly era. But if they could get close then .... Wow.

Just A Notion is an old Abba song, previously unreleased (apart from a snippet on the Abba Undeleted montage on their Thank You For The Music box-set), which they've simply re-recorded. Not sure it's a wise choice for a single, but Abba are releasing a CD single, which should help to boost sales.

I think we're realising that most of these tracks are not new but have existed in a previous incarnation for a while.

I'm not sure about this one yet. An old 70s album track is what it sounds like more than a single. It certainly doesn't sound as fresh as the other 2 did.

"Little Things" is very underrated, this track reminds me of favourite vintage Xmas songs like "Must Be Santa" and "Christmas Cards".

I'm not sure about this one yet. An old 70s album track is what it sounds like more than a single. It certainly doesn't sound as fresh as the other 2 did. It works better in the context of the album. The only one I’m not keen on after a couple of listens is “Little Things” - it sits strangely having a Christmas song as the third track. The rest is great, however. There was only one other moment I slightly winced at the lyrics, but forget which song it was now. Tracks 9 and 10 are the highlights for me at the moment.

I've played the album twice, and whilst nothing is as brilliant as "Don't Shut Me Down", the album is far from a disappointment.
To me there are only two tracks which let the album down.
"Just A Notion" which sounds like the mid-late 1970s album outtake it is (Why make this a "single" when you have "Keep An Eye On Dan" & "No Doubt About It" is mystifying); and "Little Things" which sounds really twee & cloying on Bonfire Night. But it might sound a hell of a lot better in six weeks time, especially if it gets a "Walking In The Air"/"Dear Jessie" type animated video.
However, the second half of the album is rather strong. It is certainly not the huge let down the new Diana Ross album is.

Agree that Little Things is a low point on the album, I do enjoy Just A Notion though.
Overall I'm happy to have this and I'm not disappointed, but it really does peak with Don't Shut Me Down. But that's fine when the peak is such a high!

Apologies for lifting this from elsewhere, where it has been transcribed from an Apple Music interview with Bjorn this week:

Voyage is taking a while to grown on me.
I don't know whether I love or hate the Christmas song. It's going to feel so out of place on this album for most of the year.
I can't get I Can Be That Woman out of my head. It's lovely but so sad, and I find the lyrics to be so strange, going on about Penny the Dog and the 'screw you' bit was quite surprising.
Keep an Eye On Dan is another ear-worm. Again, another really sad song.
I think I was expecting (or hoping for) another Voulez-Vous, which gave me instant gratification. I haven't found this to be a very uplifting album, it's quite hard work to listen to at times. Not sure it's a classic but think with time it'll be a good listen.
