Yeah, I was talking to Sam about this last night, and he eventually found out the penalty thing wasn't true, thank goodness, would have been a daft decision! No wonder Sky reported it without checking the facts... Tbh, i'm blaming Dermot Gallagher rather than Sky. He was talking about it on Talksport on Monday night and it seemed as though it was him who brought it up in the first place when he was on TV that day (which i'm guessing was on Sky). He seemed sure it was happening, so no idea how he could get it so wrong, rather embarrassing really. Who knew a referee could get things wrong!

I think 'barely improved' may look a tad harsh come the end of the season. We're on 57 points with 9 games to go, and our total for the whole of last season was 63 points - so barring a late collapse, we'll eclipse that by some margin. The league table isn't looking a lot rosier at the moment, but the standard overall is a lot higher - it looks like even sixth place will be on about 70-75 points, and 80 points may be needed to reach the top 4, which would be the highest total ever. On reflection, you're right. I've enjoyed watching Arsenal much more this season. All of the Top 6 have improved this year compared to last, with the possible exception of Chelsea, who were certainly much better for the first 3 months. (Obvs I'm referring to a post-Mourinho Man Utd as well). I feel we could all look back on this season as being the high water mark of English league football.

Also, what does everyone think about what is going on at Bolton?
Training ground was closed on Monday as no food and no power. Their game against Millwall on Saturday was in danger of being cancelled as the stadium could have lost it's safety certificate with matchday staff/stewards not being paid. Also, winding up order in couple of weeks or so.
I did wonder selfishly how this would affect Reading if their results were expunged but it seems none of the bottom 6 have actually beaten them this season! Though not every team has played them twice yet like we have. I'm just shocked their mess is this bad as I thought they were on the verge of a takeover.
With Notts County struggling at the bottom of League Two, we could lose two founding members of the Football League.

Both clubs have been badly run, Bolton I heard were over 100m in debt, who would take that on? As for County, spending beyond their means, but I guess that can happen to any club, but think this is the 3rd time for County, so lessons not learned and they'll play the oldest league club card I expect.

That was some comeback by Newcastle today. 2-0 down at home to Everton, we ended up winning 3-2! Just as well given that both Southampton and Cardiff won. It's so close for that third relegation spot. Both Huddersfield and Fulham are surely down so it comes down to who will join them.
I'd love to see Watford beat Man City today. I've placed a daft £5 bet on them to win at 20/1 so we'll see what happens...

I think I should have saved that £5 I had left in my Paddy Power account for another day. I've just seen the line-ups and Watford appear to be playing their B team today.

^ well it was a daft bet! 0-0 at half time though and Watford fell apart in the first 15 minutes after half time. 3-1 to City.

Strange goings on at West Brom. They've just sacked Darren Moore, their manager, despite being 4th in the Championship. The reason given by the Chief Executive is that they have to do everything to deliver promotion. Sacking the manager with 10 games left is hardly going to help...
Edit: looking a West Brom fans forum it seems many fans (some reluctantly) agree with the decision. They all seem to like the manager but feel he just ultimately lacks what it takes to get the club promoted.

Won 4 in 12 haven't they? they just look out of ideas, they have an automatic promotion quality team and look more likely to drop out of the playoff than go up automatically, probably the right call

Problem is there are 2 automatic spots, and three teams trying to get them, and West Brom should be up there as well, so I guess they are saying he or the players have under performed, will someone come in and do miracles or get them up through the playoffs, be interesting to see. Anyone see the first Man City "goal" where a defender kicks it onto Sterling who is offside and challenging for the ball, but the officials give the goal, and people say VAR is crap, it would surely have ruled that out, and whose to say that goal gave Man City the impetus to then score two more quic goals?

Nobody watching the Birmingham v Villa game where the fan has run onto the pitch and punched Grealish in the head while his back is turned!?! Thankfully didn't fully connect, but how can this still happen? I'm assuming they need to send the offender to prison for assault, it's the only way to deter eejits from doing stuff like this. Notice he didn't have the balls to do it while Grealish was facing him!

Moussa Sissoko assaulted Nathan Redmond three times yesterday. First by ramming his studs into Redmond's achilles, then by pushing him, and finally with a head butt. And he got away with a yellow card, and his victim was given the same penalty.
And, in the past few weeks, both Pochettino and Marco Silva have rushed the referee at the end of a match, with flailing arms and a torrent of abuse. The penalty for this ? The hospitality of the Directors' Box for a week.
So it isn't really surprising that the odd moronic Brummie thinks they can behave the same way.
Football's authorities are incompetent cowards. For years I've been saying that they need to deal with cheating, verbal & physical abuse against referees, and violent behaviour on the pitch, in a much harsher manner.

West Ham got a big fine and warned if it happened again they will be lose their stadium over 1 fan entering the field of play waving a bit of paper at the players
Odd since then there have been hundreds of incidences on par or worse completely unpunished for other clubs, they are so inconsistent

I seem to recall West Ham had a full blown riot, with fans attacking the director's box and staging a sit-in on the pitch.
But maybe that was Blackpool. I get the two confused.

It certainly wasn't pretty, the media milked it though as it was the clubs that's a "drain on the tax payer", forgetting Spurs got a huge 200m grant to build a new stadium after they caused the initial Olympic Stadium deal to fall through and Man City got their stadium free too
Some coins were thrown in the direction of the directors box and a fan ran on to protest the ownership with an A4 piece of paper lol, it wasn't great and they deserved the fine but the inconsistency is not punishing other clubs accordingly, there 100% wasn't a sit-in on the pitch, the game carried on a minute later

Notice he didn't have the balls to do it while Grealish was facing him! Got a notification about this so switched on to see them showing a replay of it. As you say, lucky he didn't make proper contact, he'll be banned for life and nothing else I presume. Of course if Grealish had been knocked out he probably would have been more severely punished...
In other news, big 3 points for Reading yesterday against Wigan, 2-1 down but won with goals in 89th min and 7th min of added time with practically the last kick of the game! Switched on to commentary just before Wigan got their 2nd goal, i'm going to Berkshire tomorrow and thought I can't go on the back of a defeat! I was feeling positive before the game, and it was a must win game anyway, so started thinking of us getting a very late winner, couldn't quite believe it when it happened! There was discussion pre match about our famous 2001 playoff 2nd leg against Wigan when we won 2-1 from 0-1 with 5 mins left, but the equaliser and winner didn't come as late as the corresponding goals yesterday. The atmosphere that night has always been considered one of the best ever at the stadium but it sounded rocking at the final whistle yesterday! And to top it off Maidenhead won as well, up to 16th and will probably stay up now

Should it have been a penalty as it was in the box, and he did go down? Cannot understand so called fans, if he gets a lifetime ban, its just idiotic on all levels. I wonder if he was egged on my his mates, or was he a lone wolf, or off his face?

Probably off his face. But there's a lot of anger at Blues because of the EFL's vendetta against us.
