Now I'm not offended by swearing. Sometimes you can't beat a f***ing good swear but I'm noticing an increasing occurrence of songs that feature swear words for no apparent reason. It often doesn't add anything to the song or improve the lyric in any way. It seems to be increasingly common with indie/rock bands who know they're going to struggle to get played much on the radio in the current climate but then that doesn't stop a lot of chart acts doing it as well. As someone who gets to play music publicly every couple of weeks at the moment, it's particularly annoying when there's a song I really like that I really want to play but can't because of one needless swear word, unless I go out of my way to make my own "radio edit".

Sometimes a good swear word fits the song but most of the time it is needless and ruins a song

I've noticed that there seems to be a few popping up in Ariana Grande songs that are played on the radio at work and they seem forced, out of place, and just jar with the rest of the tone of the song

I don't mind swearing in music, unless it's framed in such a way as to insult or offend, or is just there to shock. Sexist/racist/ableist lyrics are not on whether they have swears in or not.

But yes, if it’s thank u, next - really unnecessary. And to think Girls Aloud got a C version on iTunes which edited the word sh*t from No Good Advice.
