Wow!
Wizzard entering at #1 with their 3rd consecutive #1 this year. Last year on this week John Lennon entered the chart #1 and stayed on top for 3 weeks before being replaced on top by Carly Simon.
The second highest entry is another festive song by Elton John, and also a classic.
Golden Earring enter with a classic bit of rock, Brownsville Station with a great pop-rock song that was covered in the 1980s by Motley Crue, and the Persuaders with a song that was covered 3 times in the 1980s, by Robert Palmer with a different arrangement, and with the original arrangement by Rod Stewart and Maxi Priest.
And then we have a Cozy Powell song that samples a Jimi Hendrix track which Right Said Fred later also sampled.
Steeleye Span have a hit with a very old chant. In 1975 they will chart with a classic folk song they really made their own and Carole King gets the last entry leaving no room for Rod Stewart & The Faces, for Eric Burdon's group War, for Gladys Knight or for Andy Williams. Gladys Knight's last single was her biggest NM hit peaking at #6. Andy Williams tends to do better in my 1957 charts.
