Twenty years since my first year-end chart, I'm compiling yet another one (not sure how many I've done in the past - I definitely missed a few years along the way, especially this past decade!) Some stats to kick us off... There were 22 number ones (last year: 22) 1240 songs made my weekly playlists (last year: 1145) 658 songs reached the top 60 (including 49 from last year) (last year: 683) A further 325 songs were bubblers (placed 61-75 without yet being in the top 60 - last year: 284) Two songs bubbled for 4+ weeks: Franco Un-American - MxPx (#62, July) [63, 71, 62, 74, 68] Behave - VUKOVI (#61, September) [61, 62, 61, 67] And two songs in the top 200 started off as bubblers before rising into the top 20... I'll do a few year-end awards along the way (idea credit: TheThorne ), including: best artist, best new artist, best comeback, best cover - open to suggestions for others.

195 Trouble In My Mind - Hero The Band (#24, October) 194 Teenage Blues - Vistas (#11, December) 193 The Beans - Mark Morriss (#11, September) 192 Propaganda - Warbly Jets (#27, January) 191 Is This Thing on? - Pulled Apart By Horses (#25, November)

185 Jacqueline - Circa Waves (#12, December) 184 Hey Christo - BLITZ VEGA (#20, July) 183 Prism - Plague Vendor (#18, December) 182 Wide Eyes And Halos - The Reytons (#19, July) 181 Fool Moon - Anteros (#18, January)
180 f***ing With My Head - Palaye Royale (#30, July) 179 Lookin’ Up - acoustic - Barenaked Ladies (#17, May) 178 Hypersomnia - Cameo Habitat (#19, August) 177 So Nah - 32 tens (#15, January) 176 The Bright Parade - Johnny Marr (#15, August)
As usual, most of the positions outside the top 100 are decided by stats - with 1 point for a week at #60, 2 for #59, and so on. Just scraping in by this route are MID CITY, who will be featured much more higher up...

There were a few political songs out around that time, and I think it just got crowded out.

175 - 151175 Run/Hide - VUKOVI (#4, December) 174 Tunnel Vision - Black Futures (#21, May) 173 Grass - The Candescents (#17, January) 172 On Graveyard Hill - Pixies (#20, June) 171 Exoskeleton - Dan Luke and the Raid (#19, August) 170 Eighteen - Vistas (#17, March) 169 Ghee - On Video (#18, April) 168 Anything You Want - Weird Milk (#18, June) 167 Hit Em with Your Blues - The Last Internationale (#13, January) 166 Marilyn - The Dunts (#14, October) 165 Odd Socks - Keyframe (#14, May) 164 Less Is More - Demob Happy (#12, February) 163 What Can I Do If the Fire Goes Out? - Radio Edit - Gang of Youths (#14, March) 162 It Doesn't Matter Why - Silversun Pickups (#13, April) 161 Angeline - Red Rum Club (#11, January) 160 House of Cards - The Parlor Mob (#9, January) 159 Sunlight at Midnight - The Zangwills (#13, February) 158 C.L.A.U.D.I.A - VUKOVI (#11, March) BURN IT - FEVER 333 (excluded as it was in last year's top 100) 157 Sodium - The Academy Is... (#8, April) 156 Promised Land - Cold Cave (#18, March) 155 Eyes of the Night - Tiger Army (#22, August) 154 House Of Glass - Cage The Elephant (#19, March) 153 Speak of the Devil - CRYSTAL (#20, August) 152 Wave - Roseburg (#14, January) 151 15-17 Months - Odd Robot (#18, September) Picking a few out here: - VUKOVI appear twice here. Run/Hide has burned brightly and briefly, but is probably artificially low here as it's still on its way down the chart.
- Weird Milk's 'Anything You Want' reminds me of the music from the "Awesome Mix" in Guardians of the Galaxy, so give it a listen if you like that soundtrack.
- The Dunts return after five top 200 appearances last year, including two in the top 50. Birds and the Beez is their best so far (#24 last year). Their current cover hit Hey Ya came too late for this year's rundown, but they do have one more song still to come this year.
- #24 is also where Silversun Pickups reached in their only previous Year-End Chart appearance, way back in 2009 with Panic Switch.
- Gang Of Youths bring an energetic and very Arcade Fire-like vibe to the table with What Can I Do If The Fire Goes Out?

150 - 141
150 High - About Monsters (#14, September) 149 Can't Find My Heart - Broken Social Scene (#11, March) 148 Sold - Liily (#21, February) 147 Saturdays - Fick As Fieves (#14, January) 146 Take You Home (Groove Buster) - JunkBunny (#14, October)
A blast from the past as Broken Social Scene return to the top 200, thirteen years after their previous appearance, when 'Fire Eyed Boy' made it to #160. I discovered their best songs, Anthems for a Seventeen Year Old Girl and Cause=Time, too late for chart inclusion.
145 Hollywood Riot - The Casanovas (#18, October) 144 I Can't Stand It - Only Sun (#17, November) 143 Trouble Every Day - She Drew The Gun (#14, September) 142 In My Element - The Clause (#10, July) Alone in the Universe - The Motorleague - was in last year's top 100 141 Heretic - deelanZ (#11, November)
Hollywood Riot is one of the two songs mentioned in the first post that started outside my weekly top 60 and steadily climbed. She Drew The Gun reached #56 with 'Resister' last year, but miss out on the top 100 this year.

175-151: I enjoyed most of the songs in this section -- just because a track is not on this list doesn't mean I disliked it, it's intended as a selection of highlights 5* 169 Ghee - On Video (#18, April) 151 15-17 Months - Odd Robot (#18, September) 4* 173 Grass - The Candescents (#17, January) 172 On Graveyard Hill - Pixies (#20, June) 166 Marilyn - The Dunts (#14, October) 157 Sodium - The Academy Is... (#8, April) 155 Eyes of the Night - Tiger Army (#22, August)

140 - 131
140 The Surprise Knock - The New Pornographers (#11, September) 139 Take That Man - IV Of Spades (#12, January) 138 Remote Controller - Factory (#12, August) 137 Sunday Driver - The Raconteurs (#10, January) 136 Dance on a Razor's Edge - The Shrine (#7, May)
A couple more acts with long careers here: The New Pornographers were year-end #74 with 'Myriad Harbour' back in 2007, while The Raconteurs had three songs in the top 100 in 2006, and have one more to come this year.
135 Rainbow Shiner - Ex Hex (#7, March) 134 Before You - The Hots (#7, February) 133 Jekyll - The Futureheads (#10, May) 132 Jawbreaker - Tusky (#14, March) 131 VICE - Only Sun (#13, March)
Tusky were #1 last year with 'Going Out', but the best-placed of three singles this year is 'Jawbreaker' at #132. Only Sun released a monthly series of singles last year, with four making my year-end top 50. Just the four singles all year in 2019, and 'Vice' is the best-placed.

110 - 101
110 Loneliest Whale - Lionize (#9, July) 109 Motor Mouth - Something Something Explosion (#8, January) 108 Dress Up - The Regrettes (#9, May) 107 Naked - Jordan Allen (#2, January) 106 Anna-Leigh - Royal Republic (#10, May)
105 Hello - Fick As Fieves (#7, January) 104 Crucifire - Desert Sessions (#10, November) 103 Fuzzy Tree - The Amazons (#9, October) 102 Canned from the Food Drive - Bracket (#16, April) 101 Shake - SAINT PHNX (#17, June)
One of the more unusual subjects for a song in this rundown comes from Lionize, surely the first FragChart hit from the perspective of a deep-sea animal (honourable mention to 'I Crush Everything' by Jonathan Coulton in this category).
Royal Republic had two songs in the shortlist for the top 100, but neither of them make it. Their songs are very catchy, but the catchiness wears off after several months.

100 - 91
100 I Dream Guillotine - IDLES (#5, August) 99 Screwdriver - Mystery Jets (#20, August) 98 I Dare You - The Regrettes (#5, June) 97 Violet - Sea Girls (#2, September) 96 Footstep - Springfield (#6, April)
IDLES were in the top 5 last year, and are one of the bands I'd most like to see live. Mystery Jets' 'Screwdriver' grew on me slowly and then stuck around, spending seven weeks in the top 40. Only one song in the top 100 has a lower peak.
95 Shakin' Off The Rust - The Blue Stones (#9, November) 94 Moderation - Florence + The Machine (#2, February) 93 Just a Dream - FYVEYES (#16, September) 92 Swim For Your Life - The Pale White (#7, October) 91 People - The 1975 (#4, September)
The Blue Stones provide the second of two songs to initially fail to chart, before rising up - in this case, from #62 all the way into the top 10 in just four weeks. The 1975 are hugely popular, but 'People' was their first major FragChart hit. Florence + The Machine, meanwhile, have been popular in the FragChart world as well as the real world. Here's their YEC history:
2009: Rabbit Heart (Raise Me Up) (#5), Drumming Song (#19), Dog Days Are Over (#51), You've Got The Love (#196) 2010: Cosmic Love (#60), Heavy In Your Arms (#67), Dog Days Are Over (#72) 2019: Moderation (#94)

90 - 81
90 Rock the Casbah - Gun (#4, December) 89 En La Noche - We Are Wolves (#14, February) 88 Why Am I Like This - Oddity Road (#5, February) 87 Mutations - The Pink Spiders (#3, March) 86 Until We Vanish - Oceans on Mars (#11, September)
85 Hurt So Bad - The Technicolors (#8, April) 84 Profit in Disguise - The Hawkins (#11, June) 83 Step - Strange Neighbors (#3, August) 82 Lose Lose Lose - SWMRS (#4, February) 81 I'm Not Your Man - BlackWaters (#2, April)
The competition is getting serious now, with top 5 hits aplenty.
We Are Wolves provide one of three (well, two and a half) foreign-language songs in the top 100, with a fun little song about... something in the night? Meanwhile, The Pink Spiders are another band who followed up a huge success (4-week #1 'Capital F' was year-end #5 last year) with a top 5 hit, but don't trouble the higher reaches of the year-end-chart this time around.

80 - 71
80 Darkside - blink-182 (#6, August) 79 Spill - Foo Fighters (#3, November) 78 In-To-It - DZ Deathrays (#3, June) 77 Everything Else Has Gone Wrong - Bombay Bicycle Club (#1, December) 76 Burning Candles - narcissus (#4, July)
75 Modern Love (Recorded for The Howard Stern Tribute to David Bowie) - Biffy Clyro (#3, February) 74 Fire, Ready, Aim - Green Day (#2, October) 73 Belicoso - Calva Louise (#4, September) 72 Rain - Sit Down In Front (#9, September) 71 Screaming at the Disco - Stone Blue Electric (#2, January)
The last #1 of the year is the first to appear in this rundown, and they share a set with four artists with long histories: blink-182, Foo Fighters, Biffy Clyro and Green Day all have their only entries in this year's top 100. Above all of those is the "half-non-English" song, as 'Belicoso' has a verse in Spanish. Sit Down In Front make the top 75 with their chart debut - they are a punk group of high school students from New Zealand, whose frontman is wheelchair-bound (so he sits down, in the front).
