A lot of bands...
There was a band called Ruth, they appeared on at least one Shine album and finally had a hit single in my chart in 1999 with "Waiting For This".
1999 in particular my chart was full of bands with the big question of "why aren't bands like this charting anymore they were a few years ago"? Britpop was over, old bands during that era were getting hits but new ones were not.
Astrid were clearly one of my favourite bands in that category. In particular "High In The Morning" deserved to be a hit, and possibly would have been during Britpop.
In 1997 though songs would enter and leave the chart so quickly that you may have missed the fact they were actually "hits".

Yep precisely and a song could chart selling 5000 copies at 99p now you can have 20 million streams and not bother the top 75.

Gene wow forgot about them just thought of another anyone remember Geneva Yes - Tranquilizer was excellent! I nearly suggested Rialto, but then realised they were still going after the 90s when I looked them up.

Nearky all my 00s are CD yeah most are going for between 3p and 75p I missed the boat on the first four limited edition Elastica 7 inch singles when I got an offer for them and stubbornly refused to part with them. That and my brother took all my music collection when I emigrated. I hope he is enjoying all that KT Tunstall and Suede vinyl.

Loved Geneva, never understood why they weren’t bigger. ‘No One Speaks’, ‘Into The Blue’ and ‘Best Regrets’ all great songs. Luke Haines from the Auteurs is still active now, in fact he has a new release this week called ‘Beat Poetry For The Survivalist’ ‘High In The Morning’ is one of my all-time favourite songs, in part because Earl Purple included it on a compilation tape he sent me (back when that was a thing!)

This thread provoked me into listening to Geneva's first album on Spotify. Among the similar acts suggested were Strangelove and the wonderful Longpigs whose members included Richard Hawley.

God, how soon people forget... Denim was Lawrence from Felt's project after Felt ran its course (10 albums, 20 singles). And The Auteurs was Luke Haines before Blackbox Recorder. Anyone remember Speedy? Breezy debut single but everything else bombed. 1990s version of The Honeycombs...
Couple of TV performances from the Totally Friday Show and Live and Kicking and talking to Zig and Zag on The Big Breakfast
