HAVEN COMBI RETRO-CHART W/B 3rd APRIL 1988
The Pet Shop Boys see a surge in points this week as Heart manages a second week at the top of the Retro-Chart, accruing points from all fourteen individual charts.
After a modest first week at number one, we’re back in familiar territory with Heart registering a weekly points haul of 217. Of their nine chart-toppers Heart has now posted the fourth highest weekly points total.
Fleetwood Mac are the unlucky runners-up this week. Picking up points from twelve charts, their points score of 181 would have guaranteed them the number one spot on 12 of the 14 weeks this year (the only exceptions being the two weeks at the beginning of the year, with the PSBs registering even greater scores with Always On My Mind)
We could still have a race on for next week’s number one, with Fleetwood Mac having gained some ground on the Pet Shop Boys over the course of the last week, but they still have a long way to go to achieve their second chart-topper.
The battle at the top leaves Climie Fisher stranded at number three with Love Changes (Everything), so far off the leaders and unlikely to progress any further,
A-Ha are now in reverse as Stay On These Roads drops from number two to four, their bid for a third number one on hold, at least until their next single.
The Adventures make a surprise move into the Top Five as Broken Land leaps from number 10, easily surpassing their previous biggest hit, Feel The Raindrops which made number 12 in 1985.
It’s a good week for Stock Aitken and Waterman with Hazell Dean this week’s biggest climber with Who’s Leaving Who, up 28 places to number 9, and Bananarama this week’s highest new entry with I Want You Back at number 23.
And here’s this week’s Retro Chart in full….
