HAVEN COMBI RETRO-CHART W/B 31st JULY 1988
It’s a second week at the top for Kim Wilde with You Came, registering another score of over 200 points and still Top Ten on twelve individual charts, albeit slightly down on the previous week’s total.
It’s a much closer battle than last week’s walkover as Yazz makes a big gain in points as The Only Way Is Up closes in on the 200 points barrier. Yazz is Top Ten on eleven individual charts so it could be an interesting race for next week’s number one position.
The rest of the chart were miles behind the leaders. S-Express continue their climb with Superfly Guy as it moves up to number three.
Siouxsie and The Banshees capitalise on last week’s high debut as Peek-a-Boo jumps to number four to become their biggest single, outperforming the number six peak of Dear Prudence in 1983.
All About Eve also get their biggest hit as Martha’s Harbour leaps 16 places to number 5.
There are a number of huge climbs up this week’s chart, the biggest of which is from UK pop group Breathe. Hands To Heaven is currently challenging for the top spot in the US and this week it leaps 26 places on the Retro-Chart to land at number 7.
There’s a bit of a shortage of new entries this week. Kylie Minogue makes a record-breaking debut on this week’s Official Chart, where The Loco-Motion entered at number two to become the highest entry for a female artist. Kylie is unable to emulate that feat here and has to make do with a more modest debut at number 20, although still our highest new entry this week.
