The Premier League just confirmed recently that any handball where the ball deflects off the defender up onto his arm is not a penalty and the first incident where this happens they give a penalty lol

Both Manchester clubs find themselves in the bottom half after the first round of matches. They literally have it all to do.

Macclesfield Town are no more. Wound up in the High Court today, after 12 adjournments during which their owner said he'd sort things out.

And just like Bury and Wigan, another owner allowed to take over a club, not pay wages, leave and the club goes bust, well done FL! More fans having to create an AFC club, but they now wont get in for this season Sad news. Grudgingly keeping Stevenage up was the correct decision.

Sad news, I remember taking Macclesfield Town to the Premier League in Football Manager on the PlayStation back in 2002! The highlight of my managerial career! I acknowledge this sounds like an Earl Purple post!

Earl Purple's football posts tend to involve an irrational lifelong grudge against a particular team because they beat whatever team he was supporting 30 years ago.

In the big game of the day, Marske got their league season off to winning start (after already playing 4 cup games) by beating City Of Liverpool 4-2 away. The promotion push starts here!

Congratulations to Harrogate who yesterday wrote themselves in to the quiz books by becoming the first Football League club to reach the FA Trophy final.

And congratulations to man u for scoring a penalty in the 101st minute after the full time whistle had been blown
After Arsenal got away with the most blatant handball last week to win 2-1 and Liverpool getting a penalty for handball to win 4-3 that wasn't a penalty, I'm losing interest in top flight football, the season is already a farce
If they can review VAR after the final whistle to award a penalty after full time has been blown why couldn't they review the Sheff Utd v Villa goal at H/T which ended up handing Villa the point to relegate Bournemouth

And Brighton were not given a penalty earlier for a foul, which would have been given had it been the other way. I saw Manchester United get a lot of soft penalties like that last season. Even though I hate Crystal Palace and was happy to see them lose, it shouldn't have been a penalty for that handball. 1-1 would have therefore been the correct score.

The penalty that Brighton were denied was a bit of a 50-50 decision. Therefore, it surely couldn't count as a "clear and obvious error". Having given the penalty, the referee should have stuck with his decision. The penalty Man U got was also questionable. I think the incident happened just before the referee blew for full-time which meant it could be reviewed. Again, though, I'm not convinced it was a "clear and obvious error".

In the lower divisions we don't have any VAR. Whilst I don't think there should be a remote VAR ref, the use of monitors to replay key decisions like penalties, and hand-balls and off-sides that lead to goals would be useful.
The problem I see is generally poorer standard of refereeing as they just feel now they can rely on the video replay.
In the lower divisions we need it more as the referees tend to be of a lower standard.
I think offsides should be replayed in slow motion as you want to see where everyone was when the ball was played (the critical moment). Fouls need to be "clear and obvious" error so a replay would show if it was clearly a foul or not. Maybe slow motion. Handball that leads to a penalty needs to be played at normal speed and unless it's obvious and clear it isn't handball. Handball that leads to a goal for the attacking team could be played at a slower speed.

Brilliant, and dont forget Leeds drew 1-1 with Man City, or is that not a shock aymore? Be nice to have an open season where anyone could win it, not sure why it's like this?

Liverpool seem to lack the intensity they had to win the league now they've won it Man City are managed by Fraudiola who cant seem to sort his defence out, he's never had to, he always inherited the best in the world and left before it became a problem Man U are managed by a pub team manager Chelsea have an amateur manager too in Lampard so they are inconsistent Arsenal are in transition Leicester were never that good
VAR has been taken off the incompetent referees?
Smaller teams have strengthened well some have even brought in top top managers Leeds, Everton etc, they are better managers than ones in the top 4
No home crowds?
short rest period for the big teams after the Champions League/Europa campaign that started after the season ended
some players have/had covid and aren't at the races/in isolation
loads of reasons but it is good viewing

Looks like professional t**t Richard Keys was a couple of years early with his bold prediction of Everton finishing higher than Liverpool in the league...
