Day 2 - this is one of my favourites, it's not the most Christmassy Christmas record ever but it's gorgeous.

Only 1 per day? I have 71 songs in my Christmas playlist, I'll still be posting them in late January! Let's start with this one. It's slightly off kilter for Half Man Half Biscuit, in that it's really a heartwarming affirmation of all things festive. I really agree with the sentiment too - Christmas can be whatever you make it, you can ignore the whole thing if you wish, but constantly banging on about how it's too commercial is very boring. The line "Jingle bells, piney smells" is great too (Like so much of my favourite music, I probably discovered this through someone else at Haven posting about it. If so, thank you, whoever you are, and Merry Christmas!)

1/6. Goodier shilling a BBC Commercial product. Reef. Someone found dad's Led Zep album. It's OK for what it is, the kind of thing you wouldn't skip through on Spotify. A subtle and rather brilliant reference to last week’s mids thread, methinks 🙂 Personslly I’m on Apple Music not Spotify. Somewhat obsessed with it I suppose, but I’ve never yet listened to a curated playlist. I am sure I’m very much in the minority there though. Totally with you on Loveland. It must be a bit worrying for the show when a track plummets the week after it’s on too, surely that means no one’s paying attention?

I Believe by Blessid Union Of Souls - number 29 in 1995. I had completely forgotten this until I saw it on the Top of the Pops repeats the other day. It's like a socialist, vaguely Christian Boyz II Men, but interestingly Wikipedia describes them as an 'alternative rock band'

There’s been some fantastic stuff in the last couple of episodes - Supergrass, Oasis, Weezer. I absolutely love I Wanna Go Where The People Go by The Wildhearts too, a major cut above their other stuff. Not too sure about the Shed 7 one, but it’s definitely a sign that something’s going on that it even made the top 40.
I had totally forgotten that Blessid Union Of Souls track, although I bought it at the time. It’s a really intriguing single, like Woodie Guthrie meets Boyz II Men. “He’ll see me as a person, not just a black man” is almost too blunt to work.
