Here is an ABBA Tribute Song, from The Swedish Male/Female Group - The Airwaves. They have cleverly created a brand New Song, by making much of the Lyrics from ABBA Song Titles! It is a sort of Pop-Rock Song, & I think it is terrific. (Michael B. Tretow likes it too, apparently). The Instrumental 'Riff', that you can hear throughout the Song, is copied from the 1979 UK No.1, by Gary Numan - 'Cars'. Well, if Agnetha and Frida ever fancied a UK Top 10 Hit again - Single or Album - they need only ask Benny & Bjorn to write & produce some Songs for them.
ABBA had 19 Top 10 UK Singles, & 9 UK No.1 Albums. On their own - since ABBA - neither of the 2 Ladies has been in the UK Top 10 - with anything. 'Story Of A Heart' would easily have been a No.1, if it were ABBA's 'Come Back' Single - even if Radio 1 had snubbed it.

Here is the Swedish version of 'Story Of A Heart', on YouTube. Apparently, 'Sommaren Du Fick' means, 'The Summer I Had' - or 'The Summer I Got'. HOWEVER, in GERMAN, I'm pretty sure that 'Fick' means something rather 'rude'! THE LINK - TO THE SWEDISH VERSION www.youtube.com/watch?v=qACLRs0zn3Q The Swedish Single is the longer version - than the Edited one, that has been on UK Radio, in English. Notice at 3.10, that the Song has a very pretty, & slow 'Bridge' in it - that is NOT in the UK Radio version. However, I believe that the longer version - in English - is on the Album, outside Sweden - with only Sweden getting the Swedish version as a Bonus Track. Giving it 15 Tracks - to 14, for the Album outside Sweden. UK AIRPLAY - Radio 2 has added the Edited English version to its Playlist - its 'A' List. So, they like it - but, Radio One does not have it on even its 'C' List..... SINGLE RELEASE - I hear that 'Story Of A Heart' will NOT be a UK, (or Irish etc.), Single. It is just meant to promote the Album, on UK Radio. Anyhow, a Track need no longer be a Single - in UK Stores - to be a Hit. If enough people Download 'Story Of A Heart', as a Track from the Album, then it will get into the Singles Chart.

Chris, I'd say that 'Honey Honey' was quite a big UK Hit, for Sweet Dreams. (1974) 46-36-36-29-19-13-10-10-12-13-27-38
To me, 'Minor Hit' means something like a No.30 to a No.75 Hit.
It also reached No.61, last Year, from the 'Mamma Mia!' Film Soundtrack. (That was a 'Minor Hit').

I'm adding this Post in several places on The Internet. Some ABBA Fans are saying that they wish Benny & Bjorn had 'Up-Dated' the ABBA Sound - for the New Single - but, I'd HATE it if it sounded like Lady GaGa, or Eminem! I like Songs with a lot going on in them - flutes, & multi tracked vocals etc..... MY POST..... Why would Benny & Bjorn WANT to change the ABBA Sound? I LOVE the New Single! Many people are already saying that it sounds like ABBA - and I agree! (Because that's 100% fine by me!). ABBA Fans/Pop Fans, if you want to hear the 'Radio Edit' of the new Benny & Bjorn Song, then 'Click On' the Link, & hear it played on the Ken Bruce/Zoe Ball Show on BBC Radio 2. Zoe played it this morning. It is 'Story of A Heart' by the Benny Andersson Band. Swedish Singer, Helen Sjoholm is the lead vocalist. Start Listening at 01:07:27 www.bbc.co.uk/iplayer/episode/b00kmf79/Ken_Bruce_25_05_2009/ The Song is really 05:08 long, but there is clearly a shorter version for Radio. The longer version will be on the Album of the same name, & as an extra Track on the CD Single, no doubt. It sounds just like ABBA. Indeed, if it were actually by ABBA, it would stroll to No.1 in the UK, Ireland, & several other Countries.

'Fernando' was ABBA's biggest seller in Germany, Switzerland, Australia, New Zealand, & several other Countries. 'Dancing Queen' was their biggest UK Seller, as well as their biggest in the USA, & so on. 'Dancing Queen' is now on about 7 Million Global Sales. It has sold over 500,000 in Downloads, in the USA, in recent Years. (It is a Myth that 'Take a Chance On Me' sold more than 'Dancing Queen' in the USA. 'DQ' was No.1 in all 3 USA Charts that were around in 1977. 'TACOM' was No.3 in Billboard, but only No.5 in Cash Box, & No.9 in Record World). 'Fernando' is on about 6 Million Global Sales. Some say 10 Million, but that is a huge exaggeration.

Well Amarillo was co-written by Neil Sedaka with 2 others. Yes, & he also helped write the English Lyrics to 'Ring Ring' by ABBA. And on Sunday 15th March, C4 are devoting an entire 1 hour Programme to how Peter Kay came to help revive the Song for the 2005 'Comic Relief':, 21:00 Peter Kay: Raider of the Pop Charts (T) The story behind funnyman Peter Kay's star-studded charity video (Is This the Way to) Amarillo, revealing how a simple sketch became the best-selling single of 2005. With contributions by the comedian himself, Michael Parkinson, Gary Barlow, Matt Lucas and Richard Curtis

Assuming we are allowed to nominate album tracks, then I choose "So Long" from "ABBA" (1975) and "On And On And On" from "Super Trouper" (1980). 'So Long' was an ABBA Single in several Countries - including the UK. It failed to Chart there. It reached No.3 in Austria, No.7 in Sweden, & No.11 in West Germany. 'On & On & On' was also a Single in several Countries - No.9 in Australia, & No.18 in France, for example. I nominate:, Dancing Queen Knowing Me, Knowing You

So, it looks like 3 of the final 5 No.1's of 2008 will have been Covers, & ALL will have had 'X Factor' connections. ('Hero', 'Run', & 'Hallelujah').
RIP creativity in UK Music! I've yet to see ANY from Simon Cowell or 'The X Factor'. Whoever Wins tonight will be the same old, same old. Leona Lewis is about the best thing to come out of the Show, & 2 of her 3 No.1 Singles have been Covers.
I guess that people who like 'The X Factor' get the Charts & Acts that they deserve. Unfortunately - those of us who want more from Music than Covers & Ballads - DON'T deserve such Acts & Charts!!!!!
