'Gold' has risen from No.67 to No.63 today - but with an, (at least), 50% increase in Sales. It has sold about 7,000 this Week. 'The Albums' Box Set is somewhere around the No.110 Position apparently. There was a full page Advert for it in last Week's 'Radio Times'. As for 'More Gold' - Woolworths is selling off its stock, as it in such a financial mess. So there was a large advert for their Sale in one of today's UK Tabloids. It had 'More Gold' in the Advert - for just £5.
The 'Mamma Mia' Soundtrack Album has risen from No.7 back to No.2 in the Compilation Chart. This will be due to the DVD Sales attracting people to the CD again. I believe that the CD has now sold around 800,000 in the UK.

Not sure it's wise to write the baby's surname on a forum, even if it is publicly available elsewhere...? Removed Baby P's full name.

People like the Film because it is 'escapism' from the way the World REALLY is - like the truly awful Baby P , Tragedy - (see YouTube), & the Recession, Iraq, Afghanistan, & so on.....
The 'Mamma Mia!' DVD sold almost 1,700,000, (1,669,084), on Monday in the UK - and a further 766,975 copies on Tuesday! That's, (roughly), 2,437,000 copies in 2 Days!
THEN we have to add in its Sales, (as yet unknown), for Wednesday, Thursday, today, & Saturday. The new UK Charts come out on Sunday & it will be revealed then, (or on Monday), how many the DVD sold this Week. I reckon that it will be well over 3 Million!
However - due to the Recession, a great many people in the UK are not spending a lot on 'Entertainment' at present - so, whilst they are buying 'Mamma Mia!', they are not necessarily, then buying ABBA CD's. 'Gold' was at No.67 here last Week, & it is still near the same position at present. 'The Albums' Box Set is just inside the Top 110 - maybe at No.107 to No.109 - but only the Top 75 counts in the UK, if it is to be classed as a 'Hit Album'.
We will see how ABBA CD's have been affected by these huge 'Mamma Mia!' DVD Sales, by the time Sunday's new Charts come out.....They may well have improved by Sunday.

Until this Week, 'Sex & The City' was the fastest Selling DVD of 2008 in the UK - 820,000 in a Week. And, 'Titanic' was the fastest Selling Film ever on DVD & Video here - About 1,110,000 UK copies sold on its first Day. 'Mamma Mia!' has beaten everything. It was released here on Monday, & sold an incredible 1,669,084 in ONE DAY! 300,000 of them were in the ASDA Super Market Chain Store alone. news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/entertainment/7748284.stm

Apparently, the Winner's Song - to be the Single, has already been chosen - by Simon Cowell.
It will be a Cover, (what a surprise!), of the Leonard Cohen Song 'Halleluja' - which has been done by Jeff Buckley, KD Lang, Rufus Wainright, & many others.
I believe that Diana Vickers has already sang it on the Show, & got rave reviews off the Judges for it. As a result - according to one of today's 'Papers - the other Finalists are very suspicious that the entire thing is being rigged for her to Win. (Easily done - you just make sure that Voters cannot get through to cast all their Votes for the other Finalists. This trick has been suspected before about that Show).
The suspicions of the other Finalists are not helped by the fact that Simon Cowell announced that 'Diana will win', as he left a Charity Event recently.
Anyhow - there we have it. Whoever wins the 'Show', will have the Christmas Number 1 - with a Cover of a 1984 Leonard Cohen Song. How exciting! (Not!).

My Brother loves Bond films. I got him 'Casino Royale' on DVD. He watched 10 minutes of it, said it was, 'Boring', & that 'Daniel Craig is a, 'Rubbish Bond', & that was that.
We will see if the new Bond Film out grosses 'Mamma Mia!' here in the UK. The 'ABBA' Film is now the 5th All Time Grossing Film here. 'Casino Royale' was the highest placed Bond film - at No.6 - it is now No.7, & 'The Lord Of The Rings : The Two Towers', has been pushed down from No.5 to No.6.

In last night's 'Manchester Evening News', it said that Peter Kay & Take That have recorded a 'Novelty Single' - to release in December. In an attempt to stop 'The X Factor' Winner having the Christmas No.1. OK, it is obvious that 'The X Factor' is designed to make Cowell loads of money. How much does he give to Charity, though? How much 'Phone Vote' cash from the Show goes to Charity?
Or does he keep virtually every penny that the Tax Man does not take? (More than one UK TV Critic has long asked why there is never any mention of 'Money for Charity', regarding the 'X Factor' 'phone Votes. A good question to ask!).
Hopefully, the Show will fade out as the Years go by - it uses the early Auditions to make fun of people - then Cowell has the nerve to recently say, (Interview), that 'personal insults' are just not acceptable! (Yes - like when he called a young guy, with bulging eyes, 'A bush baby' etc. on 'American Idol).
I wonder how Cowell would like it, if his face was ever disfigured, & people made fun of him? He can't complain - he's done such things to MANY other people, in Auditions! (Hopefully, Karma exists).
Apart from Will Young & Leona Lewis, not one of the UK 'Talent' Shows has come up with a decent, long term Act. I wonder the if the 2008 Winner will have a Ballad for their first Single? Something about, 'Look at me babe, I'm on top of the world', or, 'I will love you until the day I die'. (Puke!).
No imagination in ANY of it. Why any 'Music Lovers' like the Show is beyond me. Still - there;'s no accounting for taste.....

Apart from it hardly ever creating long term Acts, 'The X Factor' is now at a stage where many of those who Audition think that they have to tell a good 'Sob Story' - true or false - to have a better chance to get through.
And some of the Judges fall for it. So, it ends up being even less about finding lasting Talent than before. It ends up being another Big Brother - full of 'Look at me!' show offs - people who want fame for the sake of fame, & who will say anything to try to get attention.
I hope it goes the way of Big Brother. Both Shows are old, dull, predictable, & a con.
Every Year Cowell & Walsh use the Show to promote Westlife's music. If the Acts aren't singing their Songs - sooner or later - their Songs are used as background Music. The truth - the entire Show is designed to make as much money for Cowell as possible. I guess those who fall for it, deserve to be exploited.....

'Mamma Mia!' is already the 7th All Time Film in the UK, as regards Box Office takings. It is also the No.1 Film of 2008 in the UK - beating the Batman Film, which many said would far out perform it here. It will climb even further up the All Time Top 10, as it is No.2 in the Weekly UK Film Chart at present.....

ABBA - The Albums. It seems that October 27th sees an International ABBA Box Set coming out. It consists of ABBA's 8 Studio Albums - as they were when they first came out - and a 17 Track CD of 'Rarities'. There isn't a note of a Remix, or further Unreleased Music, in ANY of it - and it will be very expensive to buy..... Here's More Details - and a Photo of the Cover:, www.abbasite.com/news/

Here is a Link to Madonna's version of ABBA's 'Like An Angel Passing Through My Room'. She covered it during the 'Ray Of Light' sessions. (OR during the sessions for 'Music'. Depending which Madonna Fan you talk to). ABBA recorded it for their 'The Visitors' Album, in 1981. www.youtube.com/watch?v=zHojUm_C-vo I think it would - easily - be a No.1 Single for Madonna.
