Thanks for correcting me, ManicKangaroo. I did not realise that she came 2nd. Also - at no time - have I said that I am against 'Talent Show' Entrants releasing Records. It would hardly be a position for an ABBA Fan like me to take, when the World only noticed them properly when they Won Eurovision in 1974, & that is a Song Competition. (Also, I think that 'Bleeding Love', by Leona Lewis is a fantastic Single).
What I have said - many times - is that Simon Cowell & Louis Walsh have Zero imagination, when choosing Covers for 'X Factor' etc. Acts to perform. You get the same Tracks appearing over & over, & the same type of Tracks too.
This has 100% nothing to do with Duffy coming 2nd in the Welsh version of the X Factor. Duffy is truly talented. A creative Talent too - she helps to write many of her songs.
Her Album will be No.1 soon. I know many people in the UK Music Industry, & I predicted to them, that 'Mercy' would be huge in the UK & Ireland, over a Month ago.
So, there has been no contradiction from me, as regards my views on Cowell & Walsh, & my views on Duffy.....The 2 matters are entirely different.

Her Album ends with 'Distant Dreamer' - a 5 Minute Ballad that sounds like a 1960's Phil Spector 'Wall Of Sound' Production. It builds & builds into a huge Song. Here is a Link to it:, www.youtube.com/watch?v=qYHQ8JE0Vqs PLUS - Duffy Won the Welsh version of the X Factor, & recorded some Songs in Welsh. One is 'Hedfan Angel', & it is very beautiful. (It means 'Fly Angel Fly', I believe). It sounds like ABBA - the Flutes - meets a big Eurovision type Ballad. Here is the Link:, youtube.com/watch?v=leiPemYDg-8

I think that 'Mercy' is fantastic. It will be a Top 3 Hit. The Intro & backing beat is rather like that from 'Stand By Me' by Ben E. King. I read, ('Independent'), that one of Madonna's former Producers is so impressed with Duffy, that very recently, he used a Private Jet, to fly 25 of his Friends, to see her at the Pigalle Club in London - all the way from the USA! She really is creating a big buzz. I think that she will end up being a huge success. 'Rockferry' took longer to grow on me, but it has done so now. It is really a sort of 1960's big build-up ballad. 'Mercy' - Promo Video www.youtube.com/watch?v=KE2orthS3TQ She sings it even better, 'Live':, www.youtube.com/watch?v=8pOwFQkEwAg&feature=related Orthon7

The USA was to get it in July 2008 - and the UK was supposed to wait until November 2008! (Along with many other Countries).
However, they seem to have seen sense now, & virtually everywhere will get the Film in July 2008.
Some of the Songs are not the same as in the Stage Show. 'Knowing Me, Knowing You', is NOT in the Film - nor are 'Thank You For The Music', & 'Under Attack'.
I hear that 'I Do, I Do, I Do...' is not in the Film in full, but only in part. The only ABBA Song in the Film, that was NOT in the Stage Show is, 'When All Is Said & Done'.
They have used the original Musicians from the ABBA Records for the Music in the Film.

There are about 70 of them in their Church. They say that only they will go to Heaven. That means that Heaven is either empty - except for God - or only a few members of their Church, who have died, are already there.
Apparently, they believe that the 6.5 Billion to 6.7 Billion people, not in their Church will 'Burn In Hell'.

It isn't really a 'Cilla Black song'. Cilla covered it, & reached No.1 in 1964. It was originally by Dionne Warwick, who had the USA Hit with it - No.8.
Cilla simply had the UK Hit with it. Her version was the Best Selling UK Hit - by a UK Female - (about 850,000), until Julie Covington overtook it, ('Don't Cry For Me Argentina'), in 1977 - 993,000 UK Sales.
No doubt, Atomic Kitten will have a big hit with, 'Anyone Who Had A Heart', & many people will think it is a new Song.....

ManicReindeer, I too have now read that Paul McCartney is supposed to be getting the Outstanding Contribution Award at the 2008 BRITS - just as it was widely reported that Kylie was to get that Award, just Days ago. (It is all over the Internet that Kylie is to get it - just put, Kylie 2008 BRITS, into Google).
No doubt it will now be widely reported that Paul McCartney is to get it.
The BRITS have been rather odd with Beatles Awards. The Beatles got the Outstanding Contribution Award in 1977 - when it was The Britannia Awards. They ALSO got exactly the same Award in 1983.
Elton John has had the Award twice too. He got it in 1986 - Wham were joint Winners. He also got the same Award in 1995.
Freddie Mercury, (1992), & Queen, (1990), have both had the Award, in different Years, as have Sting, (2002), & The Police, (1985).
John Lennon got it in 1982.
Spice Girls got it in 2000, but the Group who have spent longest on Top of both the UK Singles & Albums Chart, since The Beatles split in 1970, have never been given the Award at all.....

Kylie Minogue is to get the Outstanding Contribution To Music Award, at the 2008 BRITS. It is only the 2nd time that a wholly non UK Act has Won it. Bob Geldof, (Ireland), Won it in 2005.
Fleetwood Mac got the Award in 1998, but 2 of them are British.
U2 Won it in 2001, but not all of them are Irish - 2 of the Group were born in Britain.

Yes, he may well get a 2nd Album.
I think that a problem is that his first CD is being launched in several Countries at once, & only the UK & Ireland will actually know him from, 'Britain's Got Talent'. The rest of the Countries will go by News Paper Reports, & so on. I believe that he's been in the USA, to try & get attention in the Media there. Whether it will be enough to see him actually sell a lot of copies of his Album outside the British Isles is another matter. (Geographically, the British Isles are Britain & Ireland).
Simon seems to be counting on him being an International success, & if that does not happen, then he may or may not get a 2nd Album. We shall see.....

OK - The Paul Potts Album will do well. The Track List is unimaginative. If his 2nd Album struggles a bit, then it may be his last. If you recall, Gareth Gates was dropped because his first Album got to No.2, & the 2nd 'only' got to No.11.
As regards the first post in this Thread - the Paul Potts CD will be able to Chart in both the main Album Chart and in the Classical Album Chart. It is easier to dominate the Classical CD Chart, so he will stay in the Top 10 in that Chart for longer than in the main Chart.

Well, Cowell can't see anything special in Kate Bush, or David Bowie, sees no point in Bob Dylan, & says he has sold 100 Million Records in the past 5 Years, & as that is more than Bruce Springsteen has sold, he ought to be paid more than him.
Notice that he dislikes any Act that is different. He turned down Mika. He just likes safe, cosy, stuff. Basically he has the tastes of a 65 Year old Granny, & that is the sort of Music that he sells.
He was behind the 1995 version of, 'Unchained Melody', by Robson & Jerome, the 2002 one by Gareth Gates, & in 2005 he got Il Divo to record it for their 'Ancora' Album.
If lack of imagination were a Crime, Cowell would get Life in Prison!
Now, he has chosen more of his favourites for Paul Potts Album, & - as usual - several of them have been Covered by 'his' Acts before. I regard Cowell as a joke. A joke with a big mouth, & absolutely no shred of awareness about being imaginative, or creative. I don't care how much cash he makes for himself, or his Record Company. He is beneath contempt. Why so many people fall for it - well, only they can answer that.....
As for Paul Potts - Cowell will lose ALL interest in him, if his 2nd Album does not do very well. (Assumng that he gets to do a 2nd Album). It is all about the money for Cowell - the Acts are a very poor 2nd.....

Simon Cowell has chosen the Tracks for the Paul Potts CD. He chooses most of the Tracks for every Act that he is connected with. He likes to get the Acts to Cover his favourite Songs.
It does not matter how many times the different Acts Cover them, as long as Simon gets his favourites on their Albums.
So, the Paul Potts CD has Tracks on it that Westlife have done, Ray Quinn has done, & to make extra sure, that Simon gets his favourites on it, it also has Tracks on it off the first Il Divo Album, their 2nd, & their 3rd. Why the Foreign Language versions? It is to make people think they are buying something exotic, & classy, & it also helps Simon to get away with having the same old Covers, by giving them a Foreign 'Twist'.
Basically, Simon has Zero imagination, & he likes to put the same old Tracks out - knowing that those who Vote for the 'Winner' on 'his' Shows, will rush out, buy the first Album, & line his pockets.
He's laughing all the way to the Bank. I saw through him Years ago - unfortunately a scary number of people rush out & buy the 2nd hand garbage that he Promotes. He has never created anything - he just relies on TV hype to sell unimaginative Records. It is very sad really.....

The, 'News Of The World', has been Advertising, (in 'The Sun' & on TV), a 'Prince CD giveaway' today too, but when you actually look in today's Issue, you see that all they are 'giving away' is 1,000 copies of the 'Purple Rain' CD, & you have to enter a Competition to Win one! Big Deal!
It is good that The OCC is not allowing the 'Mail On Sunday' Prince CD to Chart. The 'Paper has had 2.8 Million to 2.9 Million copies printed for today. If all of them sell, & they were counted as Sales of the Prince CD, then it would instantly enter the UK's All Time Best Selling Albums List at somewhere between 22nd & 17th place - in just 1 Day of being given away in a 'Paper. It would also end up as the UKs Fastest Selling Album - ever.
Even if it were allowed to Chart, it would only enter at Number 1, (on the 22nd July), & then drop right out of the Charts again, after just 1 Week - the shortest time on the Charts for a Number 1 Album. It would also be the Biggest Seller of 2007, in the UK. But, it is only being given away in a 'Paper, so it is good that none of this will happen.
The 'Paper usually sells 2.3 Million to 2.4 Million every Sunday, anyhow. So, if all 2.8 Million to 2.9 Million of today's copies sell, it has to be assumed that 'only' 400,000 to 600,000 'extra' People bought it, to get the Prince CD - the rest buy the 'Paper every Sunday, come what may.

It isn't really an 'achievement' if Westlife have 18 Number 1 Singles, & beat The Beatles. Even with 14 Number 1's, Westlife are still not in the, Top 20 Best Selling UK Singles Acts - they have rarely been gigantic Singles Sellers in the UK. (After all, they only need to sell well for 1 Week to get a Number 1).
They have spent 20 Weeks on Top of the Singles Chart - but Slade managed that with 6 Number 1's. No less than 10 of their 14 Number 1's have only spent 1 Week at Number 1, & only 1 of the 14 has managed more than 2 Weeks on Top - a truly unimpressive statistic, from 14 Number 1 Hits....
The only 2 Countries, in Europe, where they have had more than a couple of Number 1's, are the UK & Ireland - and Ireland is a tiny market.
No Act has ever had so many UK Number 1 Singles, only for so few other Countries to put only a couple of them - but, mostly none of them - at Number 1. Germany has only put 'Uptown Girl' in its Top 10, & even that did not reach the Top 5 - it got to Number 8.
They have had 6 UK Number 1 Albums, & spent just 6 Weeks at Number 1, with them in Total - another:, All Time Worst UK Chart Record.
They are just a Val Doonican Tribute Act, who have added Zero to Pop Music - just Chart Statistics, & even they are only impressive in the UK & Ireland. Their Stage Act makes Daniel O'Donnell look like Led Zeppelin, & Barbra Streisand look like the Sex Pistols!
If 'The Movies' Album comes out, it will be their 2nd Covers Album in a row - and the 3rd out of their last 4 Albums. Even the 4th had some Covers on it.
So, they are just trying to beat The Beatles 17 Number 1's in the laziest/easiest way they can think of - other people's Oldies.
They clearly have no shame, & they will always remain the Biggest Joke in UK Chart History......

A friend of mine reckons that a lot of the Spice Girls Fans, (1996 to 2000), were young teenage Girls - and those Girls wanted to BE the Spice Girls. He reckons that the SG's Re-union may not be as huge as many expect, as he says that those teenage Girl Fans will be in their 20's now, & they may well be embarrassed that they once wanted to actually be a Spice Girl!
So, they may only have a much smaller percentage of their former Fans left - maybe a lot of Gay Guys, (I am Gay, but NOT a SG Fan), & maybe Straight Guys, who fancy/fancied them, plus some 'Girls' in their 20's, who are not embarrassed about once wanting to be one of the Group.
But, my Friend says that he thinks their former Fan Base will have lost a great many of its former members. We shall see. A clue will be in how well their 'Greatest Hits' Album does.
As regards, 'Forever' - the mistake they made there, was to try to go sort of 'mature' & R & B, etc, & it just put off a lot of the Fans who liked the Pop Music on the first 2 Albums.
It is my view that catchy Pop Music never goes out of date, & it is a mistake that ABBA made with 'The Visitors' Album (1981) - where they ditched their catchy Pop, (mostly), in favour or trying to be all 'mature' - and they just alienated a lot of their Fans.
I reckon that the Spice Girls will have recorded at least 2 new Songs for their 'Hits' Album - even if one of them, (at least), is just a re-working of something that they left off one of their previous 3 Albums.
The problem with their 'Come Back', is that the one by Take That has been huge - a Number 1 Studio Album, & 2 Number 1 Singles - so, if the 'Greatest Hits' Album, by the SG's is not a Number 1, then many in the Media will call their return a 'flop'. It would not really be fair, as the 'Hits' Album by Take That - 'Never Forget' - was a Number 2 Album, & that was hailed as a huge success, because it got so high in the Album Chart.
I liked 'Stop', best by the Spice Girls. I was never a Fan, but I thought that 'Stop' was fantastic - a sort of Tamla Motown meets Pure Pop Song. Yet, it was the only one of their 10 Singles not to get to Number 1 - a Number 2 Hit! I was amazed, as I thought it was the best thing they had ever done. 'Holler' got to Number 1, & I thought that was awful!
