www.atvtoday.co.uk/180710-sky/Sky has confirmed that it has commissioned a new series of Never Mind the Buzzcocks. The renowned music themed comedy show will return to our screens as an 8 x 45’ series, plus a one-off Christmas special, with brand new host Greg Davies. “I have always loved Never Mind the Buzzcocks and am thrilled to be the new host on Sky. We have brilliant comedic talent on the team and plenty of exciting musical guests will be joining us. All that being said, I’m so sure that no one reads these press quotes in their entirety that I’m going to finish by listing types of bread: rye, sourdough, sliced white. Oh, and cob.” – Greg Davies The Sky Original will air this autumn on Sky and streaming service NOW and is produced by Talkback, the production company behind all previous series of Never Mind the Buzzcocks. Returning to the show, Noel Fielding will be a team captain opposite Daisy May Cooper, with Jamali Maddix featuring as a regular guest. Each week the core talent will be joined by some well-known faces from the worlds of music and comedy to compete against each other. Viewers can expect the unpredictability of the original series, with some of the best known and loved rounds remaining, alongside some new surprises thrown in along the way. Kate Edmunds, Talkback’s Director of Programmes, said the production company is “over the moon” to be getting the show back on air. BBC Two broadcast 28 series of Never Mind The Buzzcocks between 1996-2015. The show was hosted by Mark Lamarr until December 2005, Simon Amstell between 2006-2008, and a series of guest presenters between 2009-2014. The panel gameshow – named in tribute to the Sex Pistols’ Never Mind The b****cks album – suffered a ratings slump following Amstell’s withdrawal as host. Rhod Gilbert presented the final series for the Beeb, however the return to a permanent host failed to increase ratings, prompting the BBC to pull the plug on the show to “make room for new formats”. Phill Jupitus was a team captain on all 28 series, with Sean Hughes, Bill Bailey and Noel Fielding fulfilling the role on the opposing team.

Good news, though I doubt it will hit the previous heights. Greg Davies is a good choice though.
Do we have a date for this yet?

Sounds good, not as good as good without some of the old captains but I do like the format of the show and was gutted when the BBC dropped it

It's set to be on the now revamped Sky1 i agree Greg Davies is a good choice Phil Jupitus will be missed though www.atvtoday.co.uk/180710-sky/Sky has confirmed that it has commissioned a new series of Never Mind the Buzzcocks. They need to keep it funny rather than a "serious" quiz but should not have so much banter that there is no time for 3 intros in the sung intro round. It used to be 3 then went down to 2 and that annoyed me.

I'm intrigued with regards the Sky reboot.
Greg Davies is brilliant on Taskmaster, so if he could repeat some of that for this show then that would be great. Similarly, Daisy May Cooper was one of the greatest ever Taskmaster contestants & This Country was brilliant (maybe as I'm from Wiltshire, I got a lot more references out of the comedy show that someone from Lincolnshire, or Glasgow would have missed). Plus in a way it is nice to hark back to the intense, truculent, abrupt, yet hilariously funny legend Mark Lamarr who was also a local lad); as was Jamali Maddix on Taskmaster where he always looked for shortcuts that saw him either get disqualified or win the rounds for his ingenuity of subverting the rules. Whilst we know Noel Fielding will bring his surreal The Mighty Boosh comedy to the show, as he did before, and has done on Channel 4's version of GBBO.
For me the greatest NMTB line up was Mark Lamarr as host; with Phil Jupitus & Bill Bailey (replacing Sean Hughes - with hindsight it is very sad why he went off the boil towards the end of his tenure) as team captains. As it was then the perfect mix of Comedy & Competition. Especially when someone similarly witty & waspish like Boy George was booked for the panel.
I felt it went rapidly downhill once Mark Lamarr was ditched for Simon Amstell who I felt brought some unnecessary cruelty to the show, compared to the mardiness of Mark Lamarr. Everyone remembers the episode resulting in Preston walking off the show. But I remember the shows when Courtney Love was a guest on, when after he made a joke at her expense, for which she shot eye & facial daggers back at him in silence.. (after a pause he uttered) “or kill me and make it look like suicide,”; made jokes about Does It Offend You Yeah?’s James Rushent brilliant record producing Dad, and a certain allegation which saw his career get cancelled (even though the alleged victim has claimed it was untrue); But worst was his gag about one of the female members of S Club Juniors that would have been ickky in the 1980s, which looks atrocious & deeply offensive today.
PS. I believe the title of the show got its name from then new Radio 1 DJ Peter Powell announcing the title of the debut 1977 Sex Pistols album on the radio to get around its ban.

I do like the look of the guests and panel, it should be a success, they seem to be using an actual mix of relevant comedians and musicians which of course is what the original show was all about AND was lost towards he end of its original run, the sad decline of all tv panel shows has been sad to see with panels often solely populated by members of TOWIE, Made In Chelsea, Love Island and social media influencers passing as contestants so it is a relief to see actual talent lined up for this reboot
