Kye Whyte and Beth Shriever both through to their BMX finals. Whyte won race 3 of his semi to seal his place. Shriever looked in amazing form, winning all 3 races in her semi.

And also silver for Kye Whyte apparently, though BBC missed the final because they were busy showing a last 16 boxing bout from two hours ago.

And also silver for Kye Whyte apparently, though BBC missed the final because they were busy showing a last 16 boxing bout from two hours ago. The BBC's scheduling has been poor at times, but this was a total disgrace. They barely showed any of the semi-finals either. I'd like to give a shout out to Ed Leigh, whose commentaries for the skateboarding, surfing and BMX have been outstanding. He balances the need to explain these relatively unfamiliar sports with a genuine understanding of what is going on and true enthusiasm for the events. In contrast, the rowing commentaries have been awful. Cracknell has given precisely zero expert insight into the races, and seems there purely to make stupidly unrealistic remarks about the Brits' progress in each race, and shout over the top of his co-commentator as the races reach the final 250m. The contrast with the superbly researched, well paced descriptions of each swimming race couldn't be more stark.

To be honest, Cracknell sounded drunk most of the time.
The swimming commentary hasn't always been the best in past Olympics but I agree Jameson and Moorhouse have been very good this week.

GB's women through to the rugby semis after beating USA 21-12. They take on France tomorrow with the winners guaranteed a medal.
GB out of the women's football after losing 4-3 to Australia in a game that saw them concede an 89th minute equaliser, then miss a penalty at 2-2 in extra time. Ellen White scored a hat-trick and ended up with 6 goals in 4 games.

The contrast with the superbly researched, well paced descriptions of each swimming race couldn't be more stark. James Cracknell has been truly awful. Quite literally the cliched self-entitled ill informed "everything was better back in my day" attitude. If he had done anything resembling research he would have known in advance Team GB rowing were going to have a poor Regatta (in comparison to the last few Olympics); with over two-thirds of the rowers at their first Olympics; and known the plan always was for Tokyo to be a (re)building block for Paris 2024 had he bothered to talk to the current Chair of UK Sport (former multi-Olympic medallist rower) Dame Katherine Grainger. Albeit the outcome was even worse than anticipated.
But then again he described the decision to get rid of Team GB's former Stasi East German rowing coach Jurgen Grobler as a victim of a "Culture War". Never mind all the bullying allegations from 33 separate former rowers over the space of 19 years after a UK Sport investigation.
Such a contrast to so many of the expert former Olympians which the BBC have used. Give me Shanaze Reade getting far too excited on the BMX any day of the week.. Hell former cricketer Jonathan Agnew was far more informative commentating on the Dressage. Whilst former Taekwondo Olympian Lutalo Muhammad is surely going to be inundated with (voiceover & presenting) work after his stint at this year's Olympics.

Is Aggers still doing radio commentary on the dressage? I haven't caught any of Five Live's coverage this week. And I agree, I was very impressed with Lutalo Muhammad - knowledgeable, articulate and with a great voice. Move over, Eddie Butler. The presentation has been a mixed bag. JJ Chalmers has really struggled at times on the night shift. I've never been a huge fan of Dan Walker but he makes it look effortless after watching JJ tread water for six hours. The other experienced presenters have been good as usual. Not convinced by Alex Scott as a live presenter yet, though I'm sure she'll do a good job on Football Focus. Sam Quek has been a bit better. Nihal Arthanayake's reports on the evening highlights show have been entertaining.

========================================
VIRTUAL MEDAL TABLE PREDICTION:
Gold: Seonaid McIntosh
Silver: Mixed medley relay
Bronze: none
We have a predicted gold for GB on Day 8 with Seonaid McIntosh in the 50m Rifle 3 positions. She struggled in last week's 25m Air rifle but this is her better event and one in which she has won several World Cup titles and been ranked no.1 in the world.
The other predicted medal is another in the pool, with a silver predicted in the mixed medley relay. The GB quartet of Kathleen Dawson, Adam Peaty, James Guy and Freya Anderson actually qualified fastest for the final.
It's been a good week for British triathletes with two silver medals and they look to have a great chance in the mixed relay with Alex Yee and Georgia Taylor-Brown joined by Jonny Brownlee and Jess Learmonth.
Elsewhere, the women's 100m final takes place but a medal will be a big, though not impossible, ask for 200m world champion Dina Asher-Smith. GB are also in the mixed 4x400m relay final but a medal looked a big ask, even before the withdrawal of Matt Hudson-Smith.
GB's women will play for a medal in the rugby sevens. They face France in the semi-finals and will then take on either Fiji or New Zealand (who they should've beaten in the group stage).
GB is guaranteed its first sailing medal tomorrow with windsurfer Emma Wilson lying 2nd going into the medal race. She can finish no lower than 3rd. Several more sailors could guarantee medals tomorrow.
Boxer Karriss Artingstall is already guaranteed at least bronze but she can guarantee at least silver by winning her semi-final against Japan's Sena Irie. Middleweight Lauren Price can guarantee herself a medal by winning her quarter-final.

To be honest, Cracknell sounded drunk most of the time. The swimming commentary hasn't always been the best in past Olympics but I agree Jameson and Moorhouse have been very good this week. I always found Jameson and Moorhouse's commentary make watching swimming more exciting than it should. Their knowledge and passion shows through.
A good way of describing Cracknell commentary. Incredibly frustrating hearing them talk over Gary Herbert and Cracknell trying too hard to be like James Hunt did in F1.
I think the BBC have done all right in the broadcasting constraints of trying to show what they can on the 2 channels they have but still frustrating not to be able to pick a sport to watch unless there's British interest, like we could in the previous 2 Olympics. So events like the tennis, golf, sailing you're lucky to get an hour of coverage. I hear the Eurosport / Discovery coverage is even worse.
