Djokovic was defeated by Sascha Zverev so his opportunity of winning a Golden Slam ended. If he recovers well and he wants it, I'm pretty sure he'll get the bronze medal.
Interesting to hear what the GB rowing performance director had to say, despite the backlash directed for the poor showing at this meet. It does put huge pressure on the rowing team in 3 years time to perform and medal well to justify the funding.

A narrow defeat for GB against France in the women's sevens semi-finals. They will face Fiji for bronze.

I hear the Eurosport / Discovery coverage is even worse. I saw a little bit of Eurosport's main channel coverage on the opening day and it seemed OK. But the other channels seem to be sport specific and they seem to stick rigidly with them, regardless of what drama they're missing elsewhere. "BMX finals?? But we have judo and handball preliminaries to show!"

After his semi defeat to Zverev, Djokovic lost his second match in a row, the bronze medal play-off to Pablo Carreno of Spain 6-4 6-7(6-8) 6-3.
He has now pulled out of his bronze medal play-off match in the mixed doubles citing a left shoulder injury.
Wonder when he picked this up? There could be exhaustion involved but how might this affect his attempt to complete a Grand Slam at Flushing Meadows?
Disaster for Dina Asher Smith as she finished 3rd in her 100m semi in 11.05 secs and failed to make the final as one of the two fastest losers.
But the big surprise Daryll Neita takes the final spot in the final by a millisecond!

In the end it was not that much of a surprise that Dina Asha Smith failed to qualify for the 100m final.
Especially if you had listened to her one hour Radio 5 Live interview "Dina - Racing For More" with (former) Radio 1 DJ & friend Clare Amfo which was recorded a week ago just before she flew out to Japan.
In it she did not sound confident, as her training had been impaired by being unable to fly to a warmer climate for a training camp in preparation for these Olympics as normal; Plus she mentioned how upset she was over the criticism of our three black English footballers, and the increase of casual racism in the British media supported by the current Government; she expressed the importance of mind & body being as one; and expressed her anger at barely disguised racism towards the tennis player Naomi Osaka.
So in that context the criticism of Simone Biles; & to a lesser extent Lewis Hamilton surely did not help her mindset this past week one iota.

Dina has revealed she suffered a serious hamstring injury a few weeks ago and has now pulled out of the 200m (though not the relay, as it stands).

Pretty sure her torn hamstring was the main reason or not running very fast rather than some footballers she doesn't know receiving twitter abuse from trolls

I have to completely agree with Michael Johnson. The secrecy element from her camp to allow the media to hype her up when she was never going to be a contender is an issue.
I can't help but feel she should have done what KJT did and hold a press conference in advance of the Olympics and be open about her timeline of injuries this year to dampen down expectations to realistic levels.
But I guess some of you think that is being defeatist.

To be honest, Cracknell sounded drunk most of the time. The swimming commentary hasn't always been the best in past Olympics but I agree Jameson and Moorhouse have been very good this week. I always found Jameson and Moorhouse's commentary make watching swimming more exciting than it should. Their knowledge and passion shows through.
A good way of describing Cracknell commentary. Incredibly frustrating hearing them talk over Gary Herbert and Cracknell trying too hard to be like James Hunt did in F1.
I think the BBC have done all right in the broadcasting constraints of trying to show what they can on the 2 channels they have but still frustrating not to be able to pick a sport to watch unless there's British interest, like we could in the previous 2 Olympics. So events like the tennis, golf, sailing you're lucky to get an hour of coverage. I hear the Eurosport / Discovery coverage is even worse.
From what little I saw of the tennis on Eurosport (and it seems it applied to other sports too on there) the problem was they had technical issues either having no sound or no commentary or both. I think that may have been fixed now, although noticed their athletics coverage last night was limited as they were covering the swimming finals. Once the swimming is finished I believe they'll be able to show all of the athletics schedule.

There could be exhaustion involved but how might this affect his attempt to complete a Grand Slam at Flushing Meadows? To be fair, his last 2 months has been non-stop and with very little rest in between. Also the pressure he's probably added to get the golden slam is telling so I can believe he could be exhausted. The Tokyo humidity won't have helped.
It's a shame he didn't play the mixed but I can understand why. I think the Aussie pair of Peers/Barty would have been favourite to get the bronze anyway.
I've seen he's withdrawn from the ATP Masters tournament in Toronto in 2 weeks, hopefully he'll take a couple of weeks off to reflect / recover before the US Open.

Two more days, 10 more medals, lots more to celebrate.
1st= Jess Learmonth, Jonathan Brownlee, Georgia Taylor-Brown, Alex Yee, gold, triathlon relay. This race had it all. Sensational performances, inspired tactics, some jeopardy towards the end, and the best British athletes taking gold. Loved every minute of this.
1st= Bethany Shriever & Kye Whyte, gold & silver, BMX racing. Pure adrenaline rush. Explosive and exhilarating. And the back stories of both Bethany and Kye are reasons to get really excited for their achievements. Here's a sport I'm now hooked on.
3rd: Kathleen Dawson, Adam Peatty, James Guy, Anna Hopkin (& Freya Anderson), gold, 4x100m medley relay. Easily the best of our many swimming medals, thanks to the unfolding drama of men racing against women. All four of our swimmers performed at their very best, and seemed genuinely delighted for what it meant to their team-mates, rather than themselves, when they won.
4th: Emma Wilson, bronze, windsurfing. Heartbreaking, given Emma won more of the 13 races that make up the event than either of the other medallists. The hugely variable wind conditions tested the athletes in a variety of situations, and the final margins were tiny. But a bronze medal at your first Olympics remains a supreme achievement.
5th: Bryony Page, bronze, trampolining. A sport I get dizzy watching. I used to be able to do a bounce in the air, then a bounce off my backside, and then a bounce on my feet again. I thought that was a good trick. Then I started watching the trampolinists at the Olympics. Wow.
6th: Duncan Scott, silver, 200m medley. 1 gold and 2 silvers for the Glaswegian. Not a bad performance.
7th: Luke Greenbank, bronze, 200m backstroke. It wasn't long ago when GB sucked at swimming. Now this hard earned bronze medal is a footnote in our 2020 Olympic story. I feel for Luke, because his magnificent swim is overshadowed by so many other great medals.
8th: Someone, bronze, boxing. Don't care. Boxing should be banned.

But I guess some of you think that is being defeatist. I agree too - the timing of annoucing Dina's injury is baffling. I agree it should have been said before the Olympics start and downplay medal prospects. It's similar to the issue around Simone Biles. I've said before that situation should have been handled better. I think she should have recognised something wasn't right on the first day during qualification, rather than withdrawing mid-way through the teams competition on the 2nd day. Also this reminded me a bit of China's Liu Xiang situation back in Beijing 2008, injured his Achilles prior to his 110m hurdles event starting but still wanted to compete in front of the home crowd. However the crowd wasn't told of his injury and were still expectant. Eventually he pulled out after someone false started and crowd was stunned.

Silver in the men's medley relay - Duncan Scott becomes the first Briton to win four medals in any sport at one Olympics.
Bronze for Declan Brooks in the men's BMX freestyle. GB has won a medal in all four BMX events.
