Kirsty MacColl - They Don't Know (1979)
Kirsty wrote this beautiful song when she was only sixteen years old.

Trying to think if I have a new retro discovery, I have been through the 80s and 90s so much I would be shocked if there was much left more me to hear. But guess I am very into Rick Springfield right now so how about this!!

There must be quite a few for me doing my retro charts. I'd have to look through my charts of the years for various years and see what I'd never heard before, either because they were US-only hits when I didn't follow that chart, or they peaked low in the UK chart so I didn't know them.
It's difficult as these songs rarely do well, it's just too difficult.

Jessie's Girl is quite well known having reached #1 in the USA, and "I've Done Everything For You" is a cover of Sammy Hagar who reached the UK top 40 with his original albeit not very high so you might not know it. Aside from those, not sure how well known his songs would be to the UK population.

When I did my Retro Rewind Charts from 1960 to 1989 and discovered hundreds of amazing songs I could not recall hearing before mostly as they were either minor UK hits; or big hits in the USA & Australia. For example this act were one hit wonders in the UK (with Waiting For A Train replicating their former band The Easybeats - Friday On My Mind); yet they had a load of hits in their native country:
This track from 1984 was an Australia #8 hit (Wikipedia has it wrong as it was apparently the 66th best seller of the year; and it was a top 40 hit across Europe); and musically it clearly influenced the future musical direction of fellow Aussies INXS
Flash & The Pan - Midnight Man

I’ve been obsessed with this 80s trash since it appeared in Robbies Top 200 panel sales thread from a few weeks ago.
Oh, and Tight Fit “Fantasy Island” - how I have lived without this until now! :

Oh, and Tight Fit “Fantasy Island” - how I have lived without this until now! Famous Tight Fit's hit "Fantasy Island" was recorded for Dutch National Eurovision pre-selection and performed by three different acts (The Millionaires, Bonnie St. Claire, Bill Van Dijk). In 1982 year Dutch NF had a little strange format. Each from three mentioned acts performed three same songs. The winning song ("Jij En Ik") was chosen by an "expert" jury while the winning singer (Bill Van Dijk) was chosen by 12 regional juries. Although "Jij En Ik" was forgotten immediately after 16th place of the 18 entries, "Fantasie Eiland" was picked up by British record producer Tim Friese-Greene, recorded in English by the group Tight Fit and became top 5 hit in UK and # 3 in Ireland.

Angelica - Take Me I'm Your Disease (2000)
Peaked at # 92 in UK. Maybe indie music fans heard them before, but for me it's discovery.

I start to think about joining to Haven 1990 retro charts compilers. As you know UK charts are not enough for me, so it's always a deep into different international hitlists (mostly from European countries).
Fleetwood Mac - Skies The Limit (# 48 in Netherlands)
I'm not a fan of Fleetwood Mac, but it's the one from the best their songs, which I heard.

Skies the Limit was a UK single, but their days of having hits were gone unfortunately.

I think I'd possibly heard "Candy" by Iggy Pop & Kate Pierson before but certainly didn't recall it that well. In doing my retro chart for 1990 it made it to #2 kept out only by the Beautiful South and ahead of many other classics of the time, making it also Iggy Pop's biggest hit in my chart. In the USA it was also his biggest hit, his only single to reach the top 40 there, peaking at #28.

From my first 1982 playlist, this peaked at #70 in the UK chart in January 1982. A bit Toyah-esque (not "techno" in the 90s sense). It's a cover of an old jazz song from the 1930s.
