Olivia Colman wuz robbed! "Empire of Light" however is a bit of a mess, so I can see why it missed out, but she's great in it. Proper Oscar-worthy acting, as she pretty much does as standard now.

I haven't seen Empire yet, but Ana de Armas is definitely expendable in that category, and I have every faith that Coleman was superb in the film. Based on that alone, I agree with you.

Top Gun: Maverick - six nominations? Ana de Armas?!
Agree on Everything Everywhere All At Once, however. Great film.

I need to watch "Blonde" but the reviews made me not bother rushing. Just seen "A Man Called Otto" and think Tom Hanks was also unlucky. That film was badly missold as a comedy!

I'm glad Jamie got it, but on reflection there was very little likelihood she'd have gone home empty handed. Both her parents would have been rubbing shoulders if not outright mates with half the academy.
Overall it feels a bit wrong that a film as brilliant as Tar went home empty handed, but equally I don't think any of the awards given were a travesty. It was just a very strong year.
Saying that, Best Cinematography probably should have gone to Empire Of Light.

I never realised that the guy in Everything Everywhere was the kid in Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom!

Hard for me to judge as I've not managed to see most of the nominated films yet, but I have to agree that All Quiet's cinematography and score were outstanding.

Everything Everywhere All At Once was the best film of 2022 but still shocked that has got all this love, its like Big Trouble In Little China beating Platoon to Oscars.
It really is just a mad, silly movie. A very clever one but still very silly.

Everything Everywhere All At Once might be the one I want to see the most, I've heard such good things about it! It is on Prime but we're really struggling to watch films at the moment; hopefully we'll get to it soon.
I also am desperate to see Tár as I am a committed Cate Blanchett fangirl.

I enjoyed Tár a lot, I wish we knew which movie came 2nd place in the ballot - because I'd hope it wasn't far behind Everything Everywhere. Blanchett is as fantastic in it as you'd expect. But I am kinda glad that blatant Oscar-bait lost to a movie made purely for the sake of enjoyment.
