I guess we need a thread about the Hot New Thing in the rock/metal world...
Not new as such - they've been around for a few years - but the masked UK alt-metal group have dropped four singles so far this year and have generated a lot of hype.
It's not really my thing - the vocals are a bit too 'pop' and effects-y for me - but I can definitely see why they're blowing up. 'The Summoning' is probably my favourite of the four new ones. I am actually not a huge fan of the ending - it still jars no matter how many times I hear it - but I love all the earlier transitions in the song.
I'm also warming to 'Chokehold' which to me is a more successful attempt at the whole genre-mashing thing:

Yes 'The Summoning' is the best 'Aqua Regia' is almost a boy band song. But yes somehow they have made it to my top 5 this week. Sometimes that hype train just pulls you in.

Album Take Me Back To Eden announced for 19th May, with the following tracklisting: 1. Chokehold 2. The Summoning 3. Granite 4. Aqua Regia 5. Vore 6. Ascensionism 7. Are You Really Okay? 8. The Apparition 9. DYWTYLM 10. Rain 11. Take Me Back To Eden 12. Euclid There's also yet another new song, 'Vore', which sounds like a direct response to my comment about the vocals being too 'pop', guess I need to complain about bands not being quite my thing more often

I gave in and listened, and yeah, caterwauling vocals are still not my thing, regardless of how good any other aspect of the music might be.

Not really a surprise to say that I've fallen hard into a Sleep Token obsession if you've seen the what are you listening to thread Granite probably my favourite, but The Summoning is up there - I love the abrupt shift into funk-sex vibes at the end!

I posted this in the new release schedule thread but then remembered I already made a thread for this band Played the album once through so far. I found it a bit of a slog to get through the back half, but then all the singles were at the start so not too surprising. I still think 'Vore' and 'The Summoning' are the best but I can see 'Are You Really Okay?' and the title track growing on me. Overall I think it will appeal more to people who got into it for the pop/R&B aspects than for the metal aspects, but it's not bad. Will definitely give it another run through.
