Also very happy with the format, rules and structure of this. There is no perfect solution, but I'm not sure I could have gotten any closer to one.
Exciting!

I thought of an act for this today that nicely fits the criteria, and now want this to start ASAP before I inevitably forget it again.

I've definitely decided on my act now. I'm listening to them now, and even learning songs I didn't know before.

I'm currently fixed on my act which I plan to enter in this contest (Ironically they are the same act I planned to enter in the next Haven Factor, but I was surprised to find they qualify for this contest... But of course I could change my mind like I often do.
However, I've thought of another grey area/potential rule issue which needs clarifying:
1. No acts that have already appeared in Haven Factor.
Q. What if (the) member(s) of that Haven Factor act were part of a previous (less successful (in the UK)) act. Could that previous act which qualifies by the other criteria be eligible for Haven Factor Express or not?

Think I'd like to see a load of acts with just 7 or 8 songs, with no hits, that would never ever feature in Haven Factor when it comes to this format, I now have 3 acts, by the time this opens i will probably have 10 ha

It will be interesting to see the different routes people go down, when this opens for entries. I'm hoping for a lot of variety, in terms of genres, eras, fame/success levels...

I'll decide when/if such a situation occurs. raliverpool has messaged me with a couple of examples, which help to explain where he is coming from. In both cases, I've said "no I wouldn't allow them into the first edition of HFE". This is because they are both bands whose names will be familiar to most people, who had three hits or fewer, but who are best known as a result of one of their members going on to much greater things, not least a Haven Factor appearance. I would class both of these examples as "quite well known before becoming very well known", and hence not permissible under the dubious entries rule. I daresay there may be more grey areas around this rule, as people spend more time thinking about possible entries. However, I don't want to write a really long list of rules about what counts as a dubious entry, and would prefer to deal with specific examples as they come up. I do very much appreciate the queries. Its better that things get ironed out now, rather than people getting upset at the last minute when I reject an entry which they think is legitimate.

Yeah the mix will be fascinating, it is open to both lesser known acts, acts that never got commercial success, acts with only a few albums, 1 hit wonders, so should be fascinating

In the most recent Haven Factor, First Aid Kit and Ghost both came unstuck in double-elimination rounds, the latter in the second one up against everyone else playing big hits and in both cases the other two acts played massive hits in the sing-off.
It's good maybe for this contest that all the double-elimination rounds come later on.
I need to look at the calendar as to when this will be compared to the ones I'm running. I'm expecting Instruvision to be relatively short (8 rounds maybe) and to finish before the 3 weeks starts (6 July). 1950s time machine will be nearer the end of the year and will be 10 rounds, yes even the years before the charts (I may make some "helper" lists for those years for those some who will find it hard to pick songs otherwise). And Haven Factor 12 will be at the start of 2024, and will be the full thing again for any act that hasn't been in it before (and any act in Haven Factor Express will also be excluded)

That is my one concern, well known singles will always dominate those multi elimination rounds, everyone knows now go hard, enter your #1 single
I'd be cheeky if I ran this and make them rounds non singles lol or non top 100 song rounds ha, or it will be the big acts 100% through and the little acts 100% out when it reaches a bottle neck round like that expecially with the unknown element most acts will have

But each act will have a maximum of three hits available, which means they'll have consumed their well-known songs before reaching the final if they play them in the early double-elimination rounds. Also, if they only have one or two decent songs, then they'll be eliminated before they even get to a double-elimination round. But we'll see. Maybe you're right. HFE will be dominated by "big" acts who've had three hits and no Top 3 albums, and excellent, but "small", acts will fail because Haven votes on chart position, not song quality. I'm not interested in running a Haven Hidden Factor, where every act and every song is so obscure and unsuccessful it becomes a chore to work through each round.

Yeah, having a full contest where every song is obscure may put people off entering, and is more likely to make it full of indie/rock acts and not much else.

I don't mind the mix of big and small acts, although I think this game will encourage medium acts who people may have heard of but might not know many songs by. I really would prefer people to pick acts they care about rather than go through stats to find what acts have the biggest 3 hit singles and not a huge top 3 album and go with that as it gives them the best chance at winning, personally that's too much like hard work, but maybe an AI can do it. But I hope nobody does even though I would be interested who that act would be.

I guess we'll see. Some will be modern acts who may have enough familiar songs.
Steely Dan just fail to qualify as they had 4 UK top 75 hits with some of them charting a lot later here than they did in the USA. Their highest album placing was #5. In my chart they had 9 hits in total, 3 of which peaked at #2, the first two of which were both in 1973 as we are now doing in the retro chart. One of those "Do It Again" was belatedly a UK top 75 hit. They had 3 other NM top 10 hits, one you'd know from a De La Soul sample, and 3 that peaked lower including the one a famous Scottish band named themselves after. I can say all this as they don't quite qualify...

Well, the act I was going to mentor apparently had 5 top 40 singles in their time, which would, if I'm not mistaken, disqualify them from this contest.

You can consider them for the next regular Haven Factor then which doesn't have any restrictions other than them not having been entered in a previous contest.
