No idea what Radio X play or who picks what is playlisted, radio hasn't been the best place to hear new music or diversity in music for as long time now, I doubt i'd hear 99% of the male acts i playlist on radio either

Not sure where I said everyone is becoming misogynist.
There's a clear (and vocal) element among a certain demographic though that falls into that category and there is a definite overlap between that and the Radio X listener base. Overall, my previous comment was in reference to the listening public rather than the music press, who have always built up and torn down acts as they see fit.

Oh i didn't mean you said "everyone is becoming misogynist". I meant that is the societal trend that is happening now and people are pushing back, it has replaced Black Lives matter as the new thing to get infuriated about, just instead of ripping down statues because metal moulded into the form of an historical figure is racist, now everything a man does is considered by default misogynist if they don't like something and that something is made in part by a female. I was also just thinking I was accused of being misogynist a month ago for talking to a doctor about the hypocrisy of people laughing at male victims of domestic abuse then trying to claim a morale high ground to win good guy/girl points but only if roles are reversed, there were a few examples given, one was a guy beaten up in public by a girl for 10 minutes whilst he tried to get away whilst everyone laughed at him and watched, 200+ people saw, 0 helped, this was an eye witness account of a real person, this was fine with the people who read this, it was acceptable and caused no outrage, the other example was someone stated that kicking a man in the privates is ok and encouraged so I said so kicking a woman in the privates ok, the idea was neither is ok and saying that would make people realise the hypocrisy. Nope, the discussion was taken out of context, I'm encouraging violence against women and i was banned for being a misogynist AND a fairly famous radio host published an article about me being a misogynist lol, the funny thing was the guy that got me a ban and wrote the article has an assault charge for assaulting a frail old pensioner live on TV, he has a criminal charge for assaulting someone half his size and twice his age, that could've left them permanently damaged and I'm the bad guy for posting a hypothetical scenario that mirrored an already accepted scenario, I'm afraid we are living in a weird time, where context and facts don't matter, only feelings matter so maybe some young people are directing their anger in the wrong place but we should be watching more closely about what is causing their anger.

In the end some people just prefer male singers in the same way that female voices tend to be preferred on these boards
iit is that whole argument right now, if you don’t like blah movie, tv show, singer , game you must be an ist of some kind. It can’t be a bad product or your personal taste , you are the one that is wrong. And a bad person.

Radio X never played Wolf Alice? I wouldn't know what is hyped or not hyped, I hear something on the radio (6 music) or through spotify (album new releases) and if I like it, I like it, end of. Wet Leg were quirky and I guess hyped and probably burnt out now as well, but they were refreshing and funny and made damn good songs, and I hope they do ok with new material when it comes around.

Music is often best enjoyed if it is relatable to the listener for sure, can we relate to a man singing a song about loving a woman? or the thrill of driving a fast car or overcoming the pain caused by a cruel world, sure, it elicits a fond response of good memories and is super relatable If a song by a woman about hating men, cheating on a man, periods or other female problems, not needing a man, break up music from the female perspective, being a feminist lol yeah not so relatable I guess, it might even elicit a feeling of disgust, that is fine, it is not for them Just like a song sang by a man about banging chicks, drugs, using women and the joy of being masculine and proud would for some women, I wouldn't expect every women to pump that loud and rate it 10/10 and call them misandrist if they didn't like it. Each to there own, people can like what they like, they always have and always will

Music is often best enjoyed if it is relatable to the listener for sure 100%. Which is why my favourite albums of the past month include one about death and unfathomable cosmic horror (As seemingly the only woman who bothers to post in here these days I should probably contribute more seriously to this discussion but I just got home from work and I'm hungry so that's all you're getting for now)

What is more relatable than death, we are all living our own unfathomable cosmic horror until the day we die, not everyone falls in love or drives a fast car but everyone dies, it is one thing we can all relate too

Going back to The Last Dinner Party, there's an interesting article about them on the BBC website, telling the story of how they formed just before Covid, which allowed them to spend a year writing and playing together, followed by a year and a half of playing gigs before they actually released their first single so the fact their sound is so polished makes a lot of sense, given the circumstances.

Radio X never played Wolf Alice? I can't remember whether the latest album made the daytime list. Just for fun, here is a list of songs by female (or female-fronted) acts that have been on Radio X's daytime playlist this year: Paramore - This Is Why Paramore - The News Wet Leg - Angelica Paramore - Running Out Of Time Florence + The Machine - Mermaids plus Blossoms - To Do List (After The Breakup) (not a female-fronted act but is a duet with Findlay from TTRRUUCES) Mermaids was on the playlist in June so other than Findlay, there hasn't been a single female act on the daytime list in the second half of the year so far. Not one single solo woman all year and no all-female bands. EDIT: After a bit more searching, the last solo woman on the daytime playlist was Beabadoobee, just over a year ago.

Quite crazy would have thought a band like Crawlers would go down well on X but I guess unless you have sold millions they aren’t interested

This one gets a big yes from me. Partly because of the video admittedly but it's a great song.
They're playing in Bristol soon, bit gutted I missed it, sold out ages ago of course.

And 9 months after it was released, "Nothing Matters" breaks into the top 40 this week, at no.22.
