This starts tomorrow in Budapest. It's the 3rd of 5 years in a row with a global athletics championships. I usually do a proper preview but have been too busy lately. I might try and do something tonight if I have time. Keely Hodgkinson is undoubtedly the leading hope for GB. Laura Muir, Dina Asher-Smith and Zharnel Hughes are capable of bringing something home too. Unfortunately, Jake Wightman and Eilish McColgan are absent due to injury.

C'mon Keeley - I like her attitude, she's a winner.
Amazingly, Laura Muir is only 7th fastest going in but the difference between her and the top 3 is around 6/8 seconds.
I have to say that those times for the leading Africans in her event make me raise my eyebrows.
Dina Asher-Smith is impossible to predict.

Silver for GB in the mixed relay after Netherlands' Femke Bol fell yards from the line when leading, handing victory to the USA. Amazingly, that came just minutes after fellow Dutch athlete Sifan Hassan did exactly the same thing in the 10,000m.
KJT well placed in 2nd going into Day 2 of the heptathlon. Had a slow start in the hurdles but had a good high jump and was fastest of everyone in the 200m.

A javelin PB for KJT means she leads the heptathlon going into the 800m. She has a much quicker PB than the Dutch athlete in 2nd but Anna Hall in 3rd has a PB 5 seconds faster than KJT. I reckon KJT will need to be within 2-3 seconds of Hall in order to win gold.

I'm feeling slightly happy now, as yesterday whilst watching the long jump in the Heptathlon, and see the odds on favourite Anne Hall struggle with an apparent injury; I decided to stick ยฃ5 on at 100-1 odds for KJT to win Sports Personality of The Year.
I suspect her odds are somewhat shorter now.

Magnificent gold for KJT, digging in at the end of the 800m to win by 20 points.

Noah Lyles wins the 100m in 9.83. Zharnel Hughes had a slow start but snatched bronze on the line.
2 days in and GB has already bettered its worst ever World Championships.

Dina Asher-Smith and Daryll Neita are both through in the women's 100m but Imani Lansiquot was DQ'd.
Matt Hudson-Smith ran a season's best to reach the 400m semis. Victoria Ohuruogu and Ama Pipi both progressed in the women's 400m.

6th for Laura Muir in the 1500m, with a dominant win for Faith Kipyegon.
Outstanding run from Matthew Hudson-Smith to clock 44.26 in his 400m semi-final and break the European record which had stood since 1987.
