76 Aztec Camera - Stray
The fourth album from the Scottish group and sadly I would say their weakest so far. Quite similar to the previous album on the list actually pleasant indie pop/rock, the most stand out track is the Mick Jones collab "Good Morning Britain", which gave them another top 40 hit sadly their last. The record reached #22 in the UK. 3.5/5

75 Scorpions - Crazy World
I can't believe I almost missed this of the list. This was their 11th album and the record with their biggest hit single 'Winds Of Change'. Well 33 years later, we are still in a 'Crazy World' and some of the good changes that are celebrated on this record are starting to be reversed. It actually makes me sad listening to this album now. Love or hate the big hit you can not ignore its impact and it is not even the best song, So many awesome songs like "Send Me an Angel", "Don't Believe Her" and "Hit Between the Eyes". Their first number one album in their native Germany and #21 in the US and '27 in the UK. It sold 7 million worldwide. 3.5/5

74 Mazzy Star - She Hangs Brightly
The debut album from the American alt-rock band. Mazzy Star are one of those bands that grew in fame over the years and are now very revered as one of the best indie and dream pop bands of the 90s. Fronted by the gorgeous and amazing Hope Sandoval, this album is a bit heavier and varied that what will become their trademark sound, think Velvet Underground/Nico is a very good comparison. "Blue Flower" was an alr rock hit in the US and "Halah" will be re-issued after the success of the classic song "Fade into You", which you still hear in Tv shows and movies today. Think I heard it on 'Cruel summer' last week, yes you know I watch teen dramas but ones set with a 90s alt rock soundtrack even better. The record did not chart though. 3.5/5

73 Redd Kross - Third Eye
One of the things that I was expecting after Razzle Dazzle 90s retro charts was loving more of Redd Kross's catalogue. I never knew about them until 1993 but the rock band have actually been going since 1982, they have gone from hardcore punk to heavy metal. But their third album is where they really find their sound, a hybrid of Chili Peppers like funk rock and power pop. "Annie's Gone" was their first 'hit' build up a lot of plays on MTV. I really liked this album but apart from that minor hit, it did not chart. 3.5/5

72 The Popguns - Eugenie
One of the most pleasant surprises of 1990 this debut album from the English indie rock band was very highly praised on Rate Your Music. I knew the name, I thought they were one of those decent twee bands. And yes this record has its fair share of twee but it also has some really amazing guitar stuff as well such as "Waiting for the Winter" and "Someone You Love", which I see now were singles which makes total sense as they are both excellent. Wendy Morgan's' vocals really remind me of someone else but I just can't think, it's not Miki of Lush, but someone like that. The record did not chart but here goes. 4/5

71 Alice in Chains - Facelift
1990 has all kinds of rock in it but 1990 is when grunge was really starting to get noticed certainly in heavier music fan circles. Alice In Chains were pretty far from anything I liked in 1990 really and I only grew as a fan of them thanks to MTV2 , that applies to several acts on this list. This debut album hearing it now is so good and so many of these songs have become classics like "Man in the Box" and "Sea of Sorrow" and "We Die Young". The whole first half of this album demonstrates why this sound will take over the world. The record only reached #42 in the US but the hits kept coming into 1991 -1992 post 'Nevermind' and the album sold over 3 million in the US by the end. 4/5

70 Queensrÿche -Empire
Their fourth album and I know I could have included them earlier, I may go back and listen to the previous albums at some point. The reason is I only own one record by the band and that is "Silent Lucidity", their biggest hit power ballad. So anyway this was my first time hearing one of their albums and it was actually very good, kind of Marillion meets Scorpions or Rush. It is quite a big bag, some excellent songs, some generic ones and a cringey one but on the whole I will say I really enjoyed it. The record reached #7 in the US and #13 in the UK. Terrible sleeve though which weirdly looks like a gif from 2002. 4/5

69 Steve Earle and The Dukes - The Hard Way
The fourth album from the Country rocker and after this record I pretty much lost touch with his music, so any albums over the rest of the decade will probably be completely new to me. Still very much in the rock vein with a very Springsteen influence on this album. The only song I knew was "The Other Kind" but the album did not disappoint, it is a very strong followup to 'Copperhaed Road'. It was not much of a success though only reaching #100 in the US although it did chart in several countries quite highly. 4/5

68 Mother Love Bone - Apple
The only album from the grunge rockers as their singer died just before it's release. A real case of what might have been, the band were made of mosty ex members of Green River who although with the Melvins were one of the first bands in this Seattle scene. This album is not just grunge though, it has so many sounds that will become big in the 90s. It is like a rock compilation, I hear Chili Peppers, Led Zeppelin, Guns N Roses, Alice In Chains, Janes Addiction. But the main sound you can hear coming through is Pearl Jam as after this band splits, that is where they headed. I truly believe though this band could have been massive, even more as there would probably be no Pearl Jam if things went down differently. The record did chart though reaching #77 in the US. 4/5

67 AC/DC - The Razors Edge
From a brand new short-lived band to metel veterans already. This was their twelth album and pretty much a comeback for them. New rock fans who maybe did not pay much attention to them before were immediately onboard with the single 'Thunderstruck' arguably their best song since "Back in Black" and their biggest hit in the UK. Although it is by far the best song on the album generally this is a very strong album, with a few osongs that are skippable, basically it is either great or bad luckily, the great vastly outnumbers the bad. The record reached #16 in the UK and #2 in the US and sold over 5 million there alone. 4/5

66 New Fast Automatic Daffodils - Pigeonhole
Now for something completely different from the rest of this batch and you can certainly not pigeonhole them. The singles from this album were very much part of any indie club night especially 'Big' which is a rival to 'Fools Gold' or 'Loaded' for indie/dance crossover. The album versions are still very good but the 12" versions are just next level. This was the debut album from the Manchester band and pigeonhole or not, that is where most people placed their sound, although they are much weirder and alternative than similar bands who were hitting the charts. The record reached #49 in the UK 4/5

65 The Pursuit of Happiness - One Sided Story
The second album from the Canadian power pop band, the debut is one of the best albums I heard for the first time, this year but the follow-up is pretty close to being just as brilliant. It seems to be quite harshly compared to the debut, I really don't know why, it is so good. Not as big a seller but it reached #18 in the Canadian charts. 4/5

64 Suzanne Vega - Days of Open Hand
Her third album and again, she was starting to fall off my radar, although I knew one of the singles 'Book Of Dreams'. So was interested in this one and although commercially it did not do as well, I still think it has everything that makes her special, which of course is her voice and quality production. The record reached #7 in the UK and #50 in the UK. 4/5

63 Thunder - Back Street Symphony
A debut album from the UK rock band and for many they may have seemed to appear fulling formed, well that is because they pretty much were, most of this lineup were in their previous band Terraplane. A bit of a reinvention saying goodbye to the AOR leanings and moving to the more mainstream hard rock sound that is all over the charts in the UK. I was not expecting much as Thunder have always been a band I like but never loved, but this record is so strong, it is such a complete work. The singles are great and sound better in this format. The record reached #21 in the UK and #114 in the US. 4/5

62 Buffalo Tom - Birdbrain
The second album from the alt-rock band from Boston. This is a big step up from their debut and I know they get even better. 'Birdbrain' was the first song i heard by them and being the middle ground between R.E.M and The Pixies, it was just what I wanted in 1990. It is still not perfect but it is a great listen especially when you know they will get so much better on their next album. The album did not chart though. 4/5

61 Fugazi - Repeater
I really tried to push harder on hardcore and post-hardcore in the 80s but I still did not like most of it, I thought know I enjoy heavier louder music for, I would get some of it but it is just a bit too DIY for me I think, guess I like things to be more well-made. Well that is for sure how I would describe Fugazi' s long awaited debut album. '13 Songs' was a brilliant compilation but this is what they can do, if they make one complete work. This is still a punk album and post-hardcore of course. There is not a bad track, so much of the music I got into in the early 00s would not exist without this album most notably Brand New, Thrice, AFi so many. It is totally mad but this album did not chart, although it has sold half a million in the US. 4/5

Think now we are in the 90s my taste maybe diversifying a bit from the regular viewers of these threads but think you will like something in this batch. 60 Bob Mould - Black Sheets of Rain
For his second solo album this is more like it. Now more of a band after his more songwriter style debut. This is pretty much a dry run for his next project where the guitars will get amped up even further. I wish I had checked this out at the time but the reviews I read did not imply that it was a heavier record than his debut. Maybe now we have had Sugar it would have been reviewed differently. The record reached #123 in the US but bigger things are coming. 4/5

59 Debbie Gibson - Anything Is Possible
Maybe but not that I am still buying Debbie Gibson records in 1990. Which is kind of a shame as this is really good, first time hearing it in full. I maybe wrong but this must be the last of the teen pop albums before she loses it by trying to be trendy. This though wow is she going epic, 16 tracks and a concept, maybe not the best idea, trim this back to maybe 11 tracks and you would have another classic from here, this is too long but kudos for her, filling that CD up. The first two tracks are easily the best though, none of the ballads quite hit as hard as 'Foolish Beat' or 'Lost In Your Eyes'. So her third album was a little bit of a flop especially in the UK reaching just #69 but still a decent #41 in the US. 4/5

58 Boulevard - Into the Street
Who? They are a Canadian AOR/Rock band and this is their 2nd album. I added this as I really liked the song 'Lead Me On' which I had on a playlist. I never expected this to be so good.Where were they in 1990, I would have loved this band, even more if I had heard their debut in 1988 which i need to go back to now. If I say you file them next to Strangeways, Dare and Glass Tiger that is how good they are. There i snot a bad track on this album and I suspect if I played it again, I would probably move it higher up with a better grade, it is that special. I will play this again for sure. Sadly apart from a few hits in Canada, this album did not chart. 4/5
