So who do you think is the best new artist of 2004. I've based this selection on album success more than singles, therefore excluding some of the pop dross! Yes, ok it's biased towards guitar music but thats coz they are the best of the bunch! ;D

*votes for Keane*
If I could place a second vote it would be for the Scissor Sisters.

Anyone who seriously thinks Maroon 5 are the best new act has something wrong with them!

Don't mean to be picky, but: Didn't The Delays release stuff last year? Thus they're not a new act. Haven't Sow Patrol been going for a few years or so? Franz Ferdinand for me.

Franz Ferdinand easily! But there are some other good bands there.

Didn't The Delays release stuff last year? Thus they're not a new act. Haven't Sow Patrol been going for a few years or so? they had a song or two out last year, but in these things i think artists are generally assumed to be débuting in the year their first alb proper comes out. "faded seaside glamour" has only just come out this year, so they're still a 2004 band. i'm not sure, but i *think* this also applies to keane. and yeah, snow patrol have had 2 albums before "final straw"... i think... also, good vote! knew you'd be converted in the end ;D

In reply to Sofie, I know some of these artists have actually been recording and released material in the past few years, but their break throughs all really came in 2004.

Robin will not be happy! I know they've been going for a while but they had their first major UK success in 2004, therefore they are listed as 'new artists'

Katie Melua didn't break into the top 30 of the album chart until January 2004. So I vote KATIE!!!
