Not quite as impressed with this as I initially was, some of the tracks have never surpassed their initial impact but it's still a solid enough album.
Right ok... tracklist and opinions as follows...
1. "Horn Intro"... self explanitary really!!!
2. "The World At Large"... sounds very like Mercury Rev, has very cool "ba ba ba ba baah" bits in it (always a good thing!!!). ;D ;D
3. "Float On"... the single, could easily be described as "bouncy". Am really liking this song at the moment... and we'll all float on ok... ;D ;D
4. "Ocean Breathes Sally"... Another good song completing an excellent opening 3 tracks. Has random "Strawberry Fields Forever intro-ish" bits sporadically in it. ;D ;D
5. "Dig Your Grave"... a whole 13 seconds of twangly guitar.
6. "Bury Me With It"... the first track to use the shouty vocals technique. It reminds me of another track but can't think what as of yet.
7. "Dance Hall"... another track that's a bit shouty but, as the title suggests, would be great to dance to at an indie night. Like the instrumental bits more than the singing!!!
8. "Bukowski"... This slows things down a bit and, to be honest, tends to pass me by a bit. There's nothing really wrong with it, just doesn't grab me much. Has ever so faint hints to country music.
9. "This Devil's Workday"... starts with the same horns as the intro to the album. Has a bit of a pub sing-a-long feel to it with improv trumpets in the background.
10. "The View"... A great song, very 80s in sound, grows on me more and more with every listen ;D ;D
11. "Satin In A Coffin"... a song you could imagine The White Stripes coming up with, just seems to remind me of trains going through the wild west for some reason... ;D
12. "Interlude"... self explanitory again, but have heard worse ones. ;D
13. "Blame It On The Tetons"... Back to Mercury Rev territory, not as good as "The World At Large" but has some nice harmonies in the background. ;D
14. "Black Cadillacs"... stars with the line "It's true we named our children after towns we've never been to" which is enough to make me love it. Then it has a cool stompy chorus to boot! ;D
15. "One Chance"... Not sure about this yet, sometimes I like it, sometimes it's skipped. Not bad, just not as good as the two either side of it.
16. "The Good Times Are Killing Me"... Like this one and it seems to end the album perfectly ;D
Basically, would suggest thinking of buying it if you like the following... Mercury Rev, Flaming Lips, Stellastarr*...
