Lots of people are predicting that legal downloading (iTunes, iPods, etc) will eventually bring about the end of cds and music stores. I saw something on the news about it a few days ago, read about it in Entertainment Weekly recently, and saw sthg in the Sunday Times where Pete Tong was saying the same thing. What do you lot think?? I think it's much to do about nothing. I know there will be some ppl who will embrace downloading and never buy another cd again. But I think there are enough ppl who like having a physical music collection and enough others who don't have a computer or hi-speed net connection for cds to totally go away. The two will co-exist together. I remember about 5 years ago I kept hearing about how the internet was going to bring about the end of the newstand and that no one would ever buy a newspaper or magazine again - and that hasn't happened!! Same with cds... I think they're here to stay.

I keep hearing that books will never survive and will disappear, blah, blah, blah, they are still here and selling well as far as I know. All hot air, sales in singles have already fallen, downloads could actually help, by getting more songs noticed before their official release date?

Yeah, I remember when ppl were saying that amazon.com was going to bring about the end of all bookstores! ;D I think downloads will help a lot too. Should make the singles chart much more interesting to watch every week. They should do the same in the US Hot 100 chart... maybe it will lessen the r&b dominance that's got so out of control.

I hope singles never get faded out here like they kind of have in the US. I much prefer the physical product than an MP3 download. I'm proud of my collection. Part of the fun is buying it and taking it home.
