if there's any crap dance/garage/urban acts in the short-list they will probably win, but the award needs a quality winner again to regain its credibility and respectibility!

The selection criteria for Mercury nomination (source = Guardian): Half the acts should not be in there then, why do you need acts who have had a top 5 album and top 10 singles...

Best ever winner was Gomez ;D Nah, as good as the Gomez album is, Suede's "Suede", Portishead's "Dummy" & Pulp's "Different Class" are all better... I hope either Franz Ferdinand/Snow Patrol/Amy Winehouse/Joss Stone wins...
