Stores open early for Band Aid sales 29 November 2004 - 11:00:59 Source: Music Week
The Band Aid 20 single went on sale in physical format today, with many shops opening early in anticipation of a sales rush.
HMV opened at 8am with a spokesman reporting steady sales but predicting the single is unlikely to match the sales phenomenon of the original. He says, “It could go on to be a million seller, but I don’t think there’s quite the emotional intensity there was at the time of the original Band Aid single, which sold 3.4m copies in what were buoyant times for the singles market.”<br> HMV is one of a number of retailers, including Virgin, Woolworths, Tesco and Asda, who have agreed to donate sales margins to the Band Aid Trust.
Universal is expecting to press and deliver up to 1.5m copies of the CD single. It has been available as a legal download since November 18, although iTunes is refusing to stock it as it is unwilling to change its pricing policy and sell the track at £1.49.

Not sure if I put this in the right forum, please move if it needs moving, I was in two minds in putting this in the chart forum
