Starts tomorrow!
Brett Lee looks like playing for Australia and Glenn McGrath may make a surprise return, too.
For England, there's speculation Chris Tremlett could replace Matthew Hoggard.

First wicket down. It's Strauss, and England are 26-1

...but 93-1 at lunch, which is more promising.

Definitely! Did we win the toss and elect to bat? Could be a wise choice if the pitch deteriorates? Be nice to see these 2 get centuries, esp, vaughn, let's hope the middle order holds up as well.

Brilliant day.
Vaughan gets 166 and I'm pleased for Ian Bell. he's 59 not out. I'm sure we'll some fireworks tomorrow from Freddie too!

Definitely! Did we win the toss and elect to bat? Could be a wise choice if the pitch deteriorates? Indeed. The pitch is expected to be good for batting for the first couple of days, before turning over the weekend. Another factor may well have been the fact that it called McGrath and Lee into action straight away, rather than giving them an extra day to rest.

Shame about losing the late 2 wickets though Especially Pietersen's... I was hoping for another 50 (or thereabouts) from him this innings... what do you reckon's a good target for the 1st innings total?

I'll be happy with anything above 450.
I'm hoping that Bell sticks around for a deserved century. Freddie will knock a few runs in, G. Jones won't last long, then Giles, Harmy and S. Jones will get 20 odd between them.
The good thing for me is that there was evidence of swing. Aussies don't like swing, and if Hoggy gets it swinging, I fancy us.

450 seems about right, maybe 500 if Bell and Flintoff have a good partnership. I just hope Freddie doesn't get too excited when he comes out to bat and tries to hit sixes in the first couple of overs...
Geraint Jones is due a good knock and with Vaughan doing well today, maybe it's his turn to do something...

Thats the big issue with Freddie. Play it safe for the first hour. we should (hopefully) be declaring by 2 or 3pm.
Let him smash about when we're near that or tailenders are in.

I worry we'll only get to 400 and pass the advantage back to the Aussies, we do only have these 2 left as recognised batsmen after all, hope to be proved wrong though.

Declaring would be nice What are the rules about declaring anyway?

434-8, glad to be proved wrong, half centuries for freddy and jones would have been nice though. What do you mean about the rules for declaring frag? You can declare whenever you like, although looking at it, we might as well, make em work for our wickets, then we can have a good bowl at them for the rest of the day! let's hope the pitch starts to swing and we can carry over a healthy lead...

If you weren't allowed to declare, then a team could just bowl endless numbers of no-balls against you to make sure you are never out. (Otherwise you could force yourself out by hitting your wicket). Then your innings would simply never end, even if you ran and ran (and the opps refused to run you out too). But no matter how high your score the game wouldn't end on time and it would be a draw.
