Anyone see the Grand Prix final yesterday? John Higgins was awesome. Probably the best match he's ever played.
Next up is the return of Pot Black in a couple of weeks. Anyone could win that...

Boo at Jimmy White being dumped outta the top 16. It doesn't really mean much at this stage. There's often a lot of movement after the first tournament, as the high-ranked players have lost a lot of points from 2 seasons ago and will suffer if they lose early on, whilst the lower ranked players haven't lost many points and can get a big jump if they do well (see Barry Hawkins).

Whilst on this subject, does anyone else find it strange, that everyday during a snooker tournment, there are highlights on around midnight on BBC2, but there are never highlights of the final!

I'd never noticed that! I can only think it's because there isn't much live coverage most days, whilst they always show all of the final of a tournament live.

Matthew Stevens won the final 53-27. Pretty good, overall. I hope they do it again next year.
Tomorrow sees the start of qualifying for the UK Championship, the second-biggest ranking tournament after the World Championship.
The top 32 qualify automatically for the final stages in December, with the top 16 (top 15 + Shaun Murphy) getting a bye to the second round.
That leaves 64 players battling it out for 16 qualifying places.
First qualifying round: Sean Storey v Hugh Abernethy Scott Mackenzie v Mark Allen David Roe v Jin Long Adam Davies v Bjorn Haneveer Rod Lawler v Nick Dyson Joe Delaney v James McBain Simon Bedford v Alex Borg Paul Wykes v Stuart Mann Darren Morgan v David Gilbert Paul Davies v Moh Keen Ho Alfie Burden v Liang Wenbo Andrew Norman v Habib Subah David McDonnell v Gary Wilkinson Ding Junhui v Judd Trump Leo Fernandez v Gary Wilson Joe Jogia v Steve James
Byes to second qualifying round: Lee Walker James Tatton Lee Spick Mike Dunn Patrick Wallace Jamie Cope Brian Morgan Chris Norbury Tom Ford Jimmy Michie Marcus Campbell Justin Astley Jamie Burnett Robin Hull Matthew Couch Shokat Ali
Byes to third qualifying round: (players ranked 33-48) Joe Swail Tony Drago Michael Judge Gerard Greene Dominic Dale Adrian Gunnell Ricky Walden Drew Henry Ryan Day Stuart Pettman Mark Davis Stuart Bingham Mark Selby Fergal O'Brien Rory McLeod Dave Harold
