The final PIOS event of the season took place last week and was won by Andrew Higginson. The win means he finishes in the top 8 in the rankings and is promoted to next season's Main Tour. Here are the top 20 of the rankings: (top 8 are promoted to the Main Tour) 1. Liu Song 2. Andrew Higginson 3. Ian Preece 4. Chris Melling 5. Mark Joyce 6. Paul Davison 7. Tian Pengfei 8. Lee Page -------------------------------- 9. Colm Gilcreest 10. Jamie O'Neill 11. Stephen Rowlings 12. Jamie Jones 13. Craig Steadman 14. Munraj Pal 15. Michael Wild 16. Craig Taylor 17. James Leadbetter 18. Martin Gould 19. Brendan O'Donoghue 20. Richard King Liu Song was on the Main Tour from 2003 to 2005. Andrew Higginson was on the tour between 2000 and 2004, reaching a high of 68 in the world rankings. Ian Preece spent a season on the Main Tour in 2003-4, as did Chris Melling, who is a former World 8-ball Pool champion, while Paul Davison was on the tour the season before last. Mark Joyce, Tian Pengfei and Lee Page will be making their debuts on the Main Tour, though Tian Pengfei was a wildcard entry in this season's China Open. Some more newcomers to the tour have been revealed. Mark Boyle who finished as runner-up in the ISBF World Grand Prix (effectively the World Amateur Championship) has been awarded a place on the tour because the winner, Michael White, is too young to play on the tour. Veteran New Zealander Dene O'Kane will return to the Main Tour next season after winning the Oceania Championship. He was once as high as #18 in the world rankings and reached the quarter-finals of the World Championship in 1987. European Under-19 champion Ben Woollaston returns to the tour after a year's absence. A number of wild cards are being awarded. 2 from England and 1 each from Scotland, Wales, Northern Ireland, Republic of Ireland and Asia, plus 1 from World Snooker itself. James Leadbetter has been given England's first wild card, Jamie Jones is the Welsh nomination and Robert Stephen represents Scotland. A number of tournaments (not likely to be televised) are coming up which will decide some more participants for next season: European Championship Romanian Open Asian Championship Asian Under-21 Championship ISBF World Under-21 Championship As things stand, there are still 10 places available on next season's Main Tour. kool why didnt ronney play did he not do good moooooo yooooooooooooooooooooooooo woofyyy roofyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy eastside upppppppppppp ;D

kool why didnt ronney play did he not do good moooooo yooooooooooooooooooooooooo woofyyy roofyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy eastside upppppppppppp ;D This is for players who aren't on the Main Tour (the one with Ronnie, Hendry, Higgins, Ebdon, Dott, etc) and is used as route onto the Main Tour for next season. It's like having the Championship and League One below the Premiership in football.

Not sure when the next tournament will be. Next season's calendar is due to be announced next month. I would expect the first tournament to be in July or August (it was August last year). It may depend on whether they add any new tournaments.

A report in one of today's papers says Paul Hunter is planning on taking a year out of the game as he continues his battle against cancer. However, World Snooker does not have a policy of freezing a player's world ranking in a case like this and many leading players are requesting that measures are put in place so that Hunter will be able to continue from where he left off when he recovers. With no such measures in place, Hunter would almost certainly lose his place on the Main Tour if he didn't play next season.

I read about this in the Mail a couple of days ago and Ive got great sympathy for Hunter's situation. His ranking should certainly be freezed at its current position if he feels like he needs to take a complete break from the game. Its not something he would choose to do in a normal situation, and really by the sounds of it he did well to complete this season

Thailand's Passakorn Suwannawat has won the Asian Under-21 Championship and as a result, is likely to be awarded a place on the Main Tour for next season.
Last year's champion Moh Keen Ho played on this season's Main Tour but failed to win a single match.

It's been announced that next season's Grand Prix will take place in Aberdeen. In recent years it has taken place at the Guild Hall in Preston.
The tournament is traditionally the first of the season and is shown live by BBC. It will take place in October. It's not yet known if there will be any tournaments before it.

Yesterday and today has seen the Romanian Open, an amateur event for European players from outside UK and Ireland. 60 players took part with yesterday seeing a group stage with players playing between 2 and 4 best-of-5 matches. The top 2 in each group went through to today's knockout stages. The winner of the tournament gets a place on the Main Tour for next season. There were a few female players taking part but none made the knockout stages.
Also taking place this week, at the same venue, is the European Championship, which will include many of the players from the Romanian Open plus amateurs from the UK and Ireland. Again, a place on the Main Tour is on offer to the winner.
These are the players who made the knockout stages of the Romanian Open: Yannick Poulain (France) Frank Schroder (Germany) Lasse Munstermann (Germany) Oren Zarum (Israel) Jonni Fulcher (Switzerland) Simon Zammit (Malta) Patrick Einsle (Germany) Roy Stolk (Holland) Kurt Maflin (Norway) Dean Thomas (Switzerland) Shay Arama (Israel) Cristian Chircu (Romania) Roye Fernandez (Israel) Daniel Kandi (Denmark) David Eliyau (Israel) Tryggvi Erlingsson (Iceland) Anthony Brabin (Cyprus) Shaul Eliyau (Israel) Jussi Tyrkko (Finland) Maurice Le Duc (Holland) Kevin Van Hove (Belgium) Coen Fool (Holland) Nitschke Marcin (Poland) Juha Erkinmikko (Finland) Kowalski Jaroslaw (Poland) Antonis Poullos (Cyprus) Douglas Hogan (Switzerland) Marku Hamalainen (Finland) Stefan Mazrocis (Holland) Jyri Virtanen (Finland) Rune Kampe (Denmark) Marius Ancuta (Romania)
Roy Stolk is through to the final and will face either Douglas Hogan or Lasse Munstermann.

Holland's Roy Stolk won the Romanian Open and is likely to be given a place on the Main Tour next season.
The European Championship is at the semi-final stage with Malta's Alex Borg attempting to retain his title and keep his place on the Main Tour. He is facing Kurt Maflin, an English-born player who now represents Norway. In the other semi, Germany's Lasse Munstermann is taking on England's Jeff Cundy.

I'm sure if he was working a regular job, he'd get the time off just as normal and come back to the same job, position/rank and salary... Poor guy

Alex Borg beat Jeff Cundy in the final of the European Championship to retain his place on the Main Tour.
He won't be able to do the same next season as players on the Main Tour won't be allowed to play in qualifying events for the following season's Main Tour.

It contains the same number of tournaments as last season but the big change is that the Northern Ireland Trophy is now a ranking event featuring 48 players.
