Oh well, an extra £7m in the kitty. One would hope that Woodgate wasn't sold purely to finance the Alves deal, though it might be too late to bring anyone else in now...
If the fee is £7m, I think that would make it the 3rd highest transfer fee Boro have received, if I remember correctly.

He's only that good if he stays fit, and it's a BIG if, who do we think the 3rd team is? Sunderland? West Ham? Trying to think of teams who have a sh*t defence... Reading? Its funny, i thought exactly the same thing! We've signed two players in the transfer window and Coppell mentioned a month or two ago of making "at least three new signings". We've got a crisis at centre-back atm as well with only 3 players available and one of them (youngster Alex Pearce) hasn't started a league game before, so it makes sense..But I would be staggered if we could meet Woodgate's wage demands. Our highest paid player is on about 25k a week (Doyle i believe) and players have snubbed us in the past because of our strict wage policy. Part of me thinks we should stick with this wage policy as little old Reading. But if the club have aspirations to be a Top 10 side, which they have gone on record as saying they do, then we need to raise the bar to be able to compete. Edit - Ignore all that, just a nice off-topic ramble lol.

Nice 3 points last night against Wigan to ease the pressure a little more.
On the downside, Tuncay went off injured. Annoying when Mido has just returned. We can't afford him to get injured again now...
If we beat Newcastle on Sunday, we go above them in the table and Spurs too, if they don't pick up points in their next 2 matches (against Everton and Man U). After that, it's Fulham at home and we could suddenly find a big gap between us and the bottom 3...

havent boro got utd soon not a match ill look forward to bit of a bogey side you lot are. We don't play you in the league again until April. We usually give you at least one good game a season. It took a few wondergoals to beat us at Old Trafford a few months back...

News has just come through that Alves has been granted a work permit. Just the details to be finalised with Heerenveen now...

Was the top scorer in the Dutch league last season, scoring 34 goals. Has scored 11 goals in 9 games this season, including 7 in one game. Was part of the Brazil squad that won the Copa America last summer.

It's more than van Nistelrooy, van Hooijdonk, Vennegoor of Hesselink and Ibrahimovic ever managed to score there...
Luque's only managed to score 4 goals...

He got 30 the season before he came to England. His time at Chelsea wrecked his confidence. I think he was overshadowed by Drogba (no danger of Alves being overshadowed by Lee Dong-Gook) somewhat. Apparently he wants to become a monk now.

ahh yeah Lee Dong-Gook, his header against mansfield was amaizing I think he's the worst striker i've seen play against Reading this season. As for Alves, he's a quality striker and if he settles in quickly i think he will keep Boro up.

I think you will stay up now derby are obviously gone and fulham who i thought might start picking up are not and are in deep trouble and either wigan or sunderland.
