the own goal was quite comical but it was a pretty poor game.

Regards the sending off, mansfield appealed one time for a 2 footed tackle that got the ball, and the player, and we were hit with an extra match ban as well, it's obviously designed to say, "Dont ever query us!"

yeah but lee bowyer got sent off for a challenge against birmingham (i think). west ham appealed and it got overturned, rightly so as it was at worst a yellow. thing is robbie keane made a similar challenge and got sent off earlier this season and they stood firm with the ban, even tho it was not a sending off...
so even the "Dont ever query us" stance is when they feel like it

Just about woken up after seeing most of the 2nd half of normal time along with extra-time lol. Typically though I actually missed the goal! Boro deserved to win, though i expected them to win it in normal-time.
Does suggest that my gut feeling of a draw at the weekend isn't so fanciful after all. A 1-1 scoreline has really stuck out for me all week.

Not that much. They have quality throughout. Another couple of defenders though and I think they should be challenging for the top 10.

boro really need to strengthen there team next season or else they will be relegated You're well off the mark, there. We were already heading in the right direction in the second half of this season before we signed Alves. Given his time out injured, anything he produces this season will be a bonus but I was very impressed with his performance last night. He and Mido will be like new signings at the start of next season. At the start of this season I was a bit worried about what could happen but I've been very impressed by the way we've come through it and Southgate seems to know what he's doing (after certain people, won't mention any names, reckoned he was 2 games away from being sacked). If we can maintain our form until the end of the season, I'd be optimistic of challenging for a top 10 finish next season. As for last night, it was a poor game, but I think it says more about Sheffield United than us. You can tell why they'd drawn 6 games in a row. They defended very well and showed plenty of determination but they had no skill whatsoever and their main aim seemed to be to stop Boro playing. Yes, the goal was fortunate, but we had plenty of chances to put the game away earlier and I don't think anyone could deny Boro deserved to go through.

S**t, Lawrenson's predicted us to beat Reading... Interesting, Lawro's predictions nearly always seem to have the opposite effect for us too. I would still be very surprised if we won, and at the risk of repeating myself later in the Reading thread, playing away in a crucial game like this may actually suit us as the pressure will be on the home team. The players also won't be playing in front of a nervous Mad Stad crowd!

Cant see Reading getting anything i fancy a 2-0 boro win Can't see it being as comfortable as that, unless we get thrashed 3 or 4 nil, something i've had a bit of a nightmare about this week as it would be the final nail in the coffin.

If Reading could nick something the confidence level would be sky high they need a win soon anyway possible

I'd have been confident of a Boro win if we hadn't gone to extra time the other night but that might just give Reading a chance.

I had this as a draw and Boro still comfortably finished 12th...

Just as I feared...
A flat performance after the cup game in midweek giving the perfect opportunity for Reading to end their streak. Boro didn't do enough to win the game but Reading did f*** all for 92 minutes...
Back to the cup...

Boro didn't do enough to win the game but Reading did f*** all for 92 minutes... Back to the cup... You were unlucky, but Boro didn't do much either. Boro started slowly struggling to get out of their own half early on, but although you improved 0-0 would have been a fair result, not a lot happened. Hahnemann only had two saves to make in the entire game. The thing that stood out for me was that Howard Webb booked 9 players (5 for us, 4 to Boro) in a game that wasn't that dirty. Some of the yellow cards, for either side, looked harsh, so much so that I could see someone getting sent off. Some of our players kept slipping, which may explain some of the late tackles. Forgot to add, despite this result i don't think you'll have any trouble staying up. There are worse teams than Boro...

The bookings thing has been happening in our games all season. We're not a dirty team but we've picked up more yellow cards than anyone else. Aliadiere's red against Liverpool was our first of the season. Maybe we just get stuck in a bit more and that comes from having a former defender as manager.
