Oh well, a point against Spurs. Looking forward to seeing Luke Young's goal...

I think Mido and Aliadiere are capable of getting the job done, they just need games. Neither of them has been able to get any momentum so far due to injuries.

In addition to that, whilst I'm aware there's a long struggle ahead, every time I look at the table, I see at least 6 teams worse than Boro...

I wouldn't say worse. It's tight between them all. I can't see Spurs being there, move them up to 12th and discount Derby and it's any 2 from 7 for me. Hopefully Bolton will go and I'd like Fulham but think it'll be Wigan.

I feel we're stronger than all of the bottom 3, plus Sunderland (based on the game a few weeks back) and Birmingham. I think we can overhaul Reading or Fulham as well.

the thing with boro is they will never concede many, thats even with their second string defence with all the injuries they had at the start of the season at the back. they should finish above 15th. there are some poor teams this year.

i remember the free scoring boro team that went down, but they did stupid things like concede 4 goals at home to derby after getting decent results against better teams.
my point is im sure boro fans know all to well that its better to have a solid defence but struggle up front rather than score loads but have an awful defence.

Indeed, though we've still conceded way too many goals this season. That said, a lot of them have been wondergoals from outside the box that the defence could do little about. We'll be a lot steadier at the back when Pogatetz returns. Our team that went down in '97 was very entertaining but a joke at the back. Conceded 60 goals (more than anyone else) but scored 51 (6th highest in the division, after Man U, Newcastle, Liverpool, Arsenal and Chelsea). Without the 3 point deduction, we would've finished 14th.

Reading's game against Boro at the Mad Stad next month (which I'm hoping to go to) is taking on more and more significance with each passing week... I think its going to be a long hard season for Boro, and I can see you finishing in the bottom 5, below us simply because of our good home record.
Out of interest mrh how many games do you normally go and see a season?

Out of interest mrh how many games do you normally go and see a season? Depends on money and MrsH's availability on weekends (she's a footy fan too but works most weekends). We usually try and go to at least one or two a season but sometimes more.

Another point and our first clean sheet since September 1st... Hopefully we can get a nice little unbeaten run going before Christmas and pick up some wins along the way. We have a couple of weeks before our next game. That'll give us some time to get some players back and we might actually have a full-strength team for the first time this season.

I don't really see how anyone else could do much better. I think you badly need a striker, and I don't think it's Southgate's fault that you've not been able to attract some real quality. Just think two years ago you had Viduka, Yakubu and Hasselbaink - was probably about the best strikeforce outside the top four...

By that logic, Arsene Wenger and Steve Coppell would never have made it as managers. We could do with a striker though, especially if Mido can't stay fit. I wouldn't mind seeing us go for Nugent in January. As for today, the goal before half-time killed us...
