The main reason why i think you're going to struggle is because with the fixtures you have had i thought you would have at least as many points as us, possibly more. I'm not going to the game next weekend but with our home record and your current form, (i was shocked at the 0-3 home defeat to Villa yesterday after predicting a draw, Villa were unlucky to see another effort hit the post too), i expect us to win, though it will be nervy..

After yesterday, I'd expect Reading to win too but I'd be very disappointed if we didn't manage to score against you.

Without a result of any sort for a month it won't be pretty, and i can't see us keeping a clean sheet any time soon. I commented to my dad while watching motd last night that even Sunderland would probably score against us! Have you got any players coming back from injury likely to play?

Mido could be back but it's probably too soon for Julio Arca.

Julio Arca has declared himself fit to face Reading on Saturday. If he and Mido both return Boro could have a full-strength side for the first time all season.

Heard this morning that you're facing a keeper crisis though, with Schwarzer doubtful and Jones definitely out. I've always thought Schwarzer is very vulnerable when he's conceded a goal. I always remember the Reading-Boro match last season. Several fans around us gave him stick while he was warming up in front of us, which did make me chuckle. He had a good game that day...until he conceded, at which point he completely fell apart.

Schwarzer's well past his best. We've definitely lost points because of him over the last 2 seasons. Brad Jones is useless so he's no loss. I guess that means it could be Ross Turnbull in goal. He's played a few games for Boro and has spent time on loan with 6 different Football League clubs so he won't exactly be a rabbit in the headlights.
In other news, it now looks like Mido could be out until New Year.

No Arca for Boro today...
Downing playing on the right, up against Shorey. I like that match-up...
Aliadiere and Lee Dong-Gook up front I don't like so much...

I thought Schwarzer was a certainty to have left during the summer? I keep hearing stories that he's going but he's still there.

He's out of contract at the end of this season so he'll leave then if anyone wants him. It seems every time he's in the shop window, he messes up, like at the Asian Cup during the summer.

No Arca for Boro today... Yea, the big shock was seeing him warming up before the game on his own. We presumed it was his fitness test but then it was announced on the tannoy that he wasn't even on the bench while he was still there. Southgate said you lost him (along with O'Neill) on the morning of the game, but if that was the case why he was out on the pitch? Downing playing on the right, up against Shorey. I like that match-up... Didn't realise that he was playing on the right! From what I can remember he didn't have much of an impact, but Shorey (imo and not my dad's) had his most committed performance of the season that I've seen, apart from when he went missing in the build up the equaliser. Aliadiere and Lee Dong-Gook up front I don't like so much... Think you need another striker, though maybe Mido could be the answer when he's fit again. Aliadiere seemed to be limping very early on. He was a threat with his pace, but apart from when Sonko decided to let the cross go through to him in the 2nd half (which led to him and Hahnemann squaring up) he never really looked like scoring. Lee Dong-Gook was apparently playing but he was completely anonymous for the whole game, not sure why Tuncay didn't start instead. Overall a draw was a fair result but if any side deserved to win it was Boro. You were unlucky to hit the post in the 1st half and when the equaliser came it was no surprise. Reaction to come in the Reading thread, won't make for pretty reading which is why it was left till now..

Overall a draw was a fair result but if any side deserved to win it was Boro. You were unlucky to hit the post in the 1st half and when the equaliser came it was no surprise. I listened to it on the radio, so I can only judge by what I heard there and what MOTD decided to show. A draw seemed a fair result but we should have been ahead at half-time. Our confidence seemed to drop for 20 minutes after you scored but things picked up again when Tuncay came on (why the hell did the Gooker start ahead of him? Complete waste of space and still hasn't scored a league goal). Downing and Johnson seemed to swap flanks throughout the game... Agree about the striker. With Mido out, we're very under-strength. I think Mido & Aliadiere/Tuncay could work as a combination but they need the games. Still work to do for both teams I feel. Boro are obviously in trouble. The pessimists (and there's a lot of those at Boro) reckon only Derby are worse than us but I disagree. I'd rate us ahead of Sunderland, Wigan and Birmingham (pre-McLeish, anyway) as well. The fact we would've gone ahead of Reading if we'd won shows how tight it is. Reading's home form should keep them up, as you've said, but unless the away form improves, they won't get away from the 7 or 8-team dogfight that's going on. The Independent this morning claimed we've bid £10m for Ronaldinho. Amazing if it happens, but highly unlikely. It would get the attendances back up though. Not expecting much from Arsenal on Sunday, though they haven;t won at the Riverside for 3 years.

Thought you might be interested in the pre-match stats for Boro taken from the programme last weekend. I've taken Saturday's result into account so that it works as a preview for this weekend's game. I'm not sure how accurate the top half and bottom half records are though as the Reading stats in the programme seemed to have been changed to reflect where teams are in the table now (ie Wigan and Newcastle now bottom half teams, whereas they were both in the top half when we played them).
Those positions mentioned are from last weekend - for the others the stats have been updated after the game
Record against top half W0 D0 L7 (20th) Record against bottom half W2 D5 L1 Record when scoring first W1 D0 L1 (20th) Record when conceding first W1 D4 L7

Get in! 45 mins to go! And why was that slap by the arsenal player not a booking? Saw someone get sent off for similar yesterday! No consistency with refs at all.
