Looks like Derby and Wigan are down, and then 1 space left, of which about 5 teams could fill.

Takes the shine off our result a bit, AND its a better result too. Amazed by all the empty seats, even allowing for poor form why can't you sell out against the Premiership leaders? Reading fans maybe fickle but we do sell out for the top teams so it seems odd to me.
And Eboue should have been sent off twice, but at least not picking up a booking for either incident means he could be discliplined by the FA review committee.

Playing the likes of Arsenal is still a novelty for Reading fans. Boro were still selling out against the top teams until a couple of years ago but rising ticket prices and declining quality of football has seen the fans drift away. You can hardly blame them given yesterday was our first win in over 3 months. It's hard to maintain your support when you effectively spend 10 years in mid-table. Football's ridiculously expensive now and many people simply have other things they'd rather spend their money on. Recent performances have been encouraging and hopefully we can build on that against Derby next weekend. That should lead to some bigger crowds over Christmas. (The highest ever attendance at the Riverside came at a Christmas game a few years ago against Norwich, of all teams.) As for Eboue, one of the commentators on BBC Tees summed it up perfectly yesterday. "The thing with Arsenal is, they don't like it up 'em."

What is the capacity of the riverside mrh, and rough prices? Capacity's just over 35,000. Prices are usually around £30, though they've been reduced slightly lately.

Your reasons are very valid and I can't argue with them, but i reckon we would sell out against the top teams every season, even when we increase the capacity to 30k. The Arsenal game for instance was on a Monday night live on Setanta and was still full. Our prices range from £28 for the cheapest games rising to £35 for the most expensive, which is why we don't go to any of the games against the top teams if they're televised. The games are put into 3 categories at the start of every season, Platinum, Gold and Silver, which are determined by the size of the club and the attraction of the match. Laughably the West Ham match was actually the most expensive match we went to last season (along with Liverpool), so its a good thing it was such a fantastic game! Looks like Derby and Wigan are down, and then 1 space left, of which about 5 teams could fill. I reckon Derby have been down since the first month, and i'm not convinced they'll bring in many players in January either. I think Bruce is a good manager (before he left Birmingham were doing better than i expected) so once he's settled in i think he'll give Wigan a chance, they've also got a better team than Derby to start with. Don't forget last season everyone thought West Ham were certain to go down and Wigan looked in trouble, so things can turn around. Would go further than you and say any side up to 12th is in trouble though Spurs should pull away eventually.

I saw a great Boro game last night - Boro won 6-1! Though it was on ESPN Classic and was from October 4, 1980... It was an old MOTD, Boro 6 Norwich 1. the other featured game from the same programme was Villa 4 Sunderland 0 - and Sam Allardyce had a shocking game in defence for Sunderland!

derby have got to be the worst side in premiership history they are on course to be... they certainly have a good chance of "beating" Sunderland's record of a couple of years ago...

15 points scored by Sunderland. Even that Sunderland team managed to beat Boro...
Lowest points totals in Premier League history:
15 - Sunderland (05/06) 19 - Sunderland (02/03) 24 - Watford (99/00) 26 - Bradford (00/01) 26 - West Brom (02/03) 27 - Ipswich (94/95 - 42 games) 28 - Leicester (01/02) 28 - Watford (06/07) 29 - Bolton (95/96) 29 - Leicester (94/95 - 42 games)

the big three in the north east were defeated today - the worst Boxing Day results for the region for many a year surely...

It doesn't look good, especially when you lose to other relegation rivals.

boro and fulham and wigan are looking down the barrel At least one of those will stay up, you're forgetting about Derby But it doesn't look comfortable for any of them, nor Sunderland or Brum yet.
