This week I'm posting here first rather than CoolClarity, although I should have posted there first because my chart got a reply quicker there than it did here. Compilation back to a Thursday again this week, and hopefully next week I can get it done by Wednesday (and possibly on Tuesday) and will contribute it to the Haven chart.
I would like to remark that the chart is much better now than it was a couple of months ago. Maybe "Speed Of Sound" should have got to #1 instead of the Young Offenders Institute and then the Jive Aces kept us going until Rilo Kiley arrived with what was the first good song and got us back on track. Now I'm starting to listen to playlists again and thinking how many good songs there are. And the Magic Numbers may even challenge the Dears for the best #2 of the year.
Simian's "La Breeze" was expected by some to be a big UK hit after appearing on an ad but it failed to crack the top 75. Well perhaps it serves them right because they priced it at 2.99 with remixes, and could instead of have had 2 CDs, one at 1.99, one at 2.99, and put their other 3 singles "Mr Crow", "One Dimension" and "Never Be The Same" as B-sides. All of those were actually bigger NM hits than "La Breeze" was first time around, all of them went top 10 while La Breeze could only make it to #17. Their biggest NM hit "Mr Crow" reached #2 in 2002.
Arcade Fire have had a few singles previously but none of them charted. Reuben still haven't charted but I think this is the first week they've reached the bubblers. I also noticed that Kanye West's name finally appears in the chart - he seems to have featured on more singles in the last 2 years than any other artist without even reaching my bubblers (or even my shortlist). On this occasion, he is featured on John Legend's single.
2 ( 2 ) Love Me Like You - Magic Numbers
3 ( 4 ) Long Hot Summer - Helen Love (#3)
4 ( 3 ) Work Work Work (Pub Club Sleep) - Rakes (#1[2])
5 ( 7 ) More Soul Than Wigan Casino EP - Comet Gain/Butterflies Of Love/Kicker/Airport Girl
6 ( 11 ) C'Mon Chameleon - Research
7 ( 5 ) Dream About Me - Moby (#5)
8 ( 9 ) Don't Come Running - Hal
